Literally just make it so you can't use it while you're skating....
If you are just the feedback gatherer, why can't we get an answer on why they didn't have a dev fix the actual problem. This is just throwing the baby out with the bathwater. The people that are pissed hate the spammers just as much. We just want to be able to turn in a given direction. Nerf it. Make it the worst thing in the world unless you just want to turn your body going like 4mph. There are ways to fix this that let people turn their bodies and don't exploit the game. I lead a team of 10 engineers at my day job and this is NOT how you fix stuff. I play hockey IRL and this is legitimately infuriating.
We're talking about "turning left" or "turning right" for christ's sake, that doesn't involve skating in a giant circle.
As you said, I'm just the feedback gatherer. I don't decide why things are changed and I'm not involved in those discussions. Regardless, I already explained why it was changed. This was an exploit. I hope we find another way to turn in a given direction. I certainly miss being able to do that.
This is also a video game that is attempting to replicate how a human physically plays hockey. Not only that, but converting arms, legs and their freedom of motion to buttons and sticks on a gamepad while also trying to counter ways that can be exploited. I'm sure rotating a player's body sounds like a simple task, but if it were that simple to make it work perfectly, it would have been done. We don't want to just take away this functionality as the easy way out. We try to find proper solutions. Mapping dozens of moves to 14 buttons and 2 sticks that try to replicate how a human plays hockey is a pretty tremendous task, but obviously doesn't cover every possible movement people can do. As I said, hopefully, we'll have a better way to handle this in the future. In the meantime, I'm very sorry you're not happy with this change. I hope we can hit that mark sometime down the road.
@EA_AljoNo offense dude, I know you're just doing your job, but waxing poetic about how hard it is to map buttons once a year and put guard rails on those button maps isn't gonna do it.
Especially when you're talking to a guy who has a decade of experience in the space. I'd respect you a lot more if you said "I already promised a bunch of people who complained it isn't coming back so we're not going to fix it."
Saying it's technically difficult isn't true and you can say it til you are blue in the face, it will never be true. I'm a technical guy, you're a community manager. It's basically like telling a detective "I didn't do it" when they catch you red-handed in the library with the candle stick.
The laziness is so incredibly obvious to me that zero thought actually went into fixing this. There's a zillion people complaining about this and you can say it's difficult all you want, we all know it's not true.
None of us want spammers in the game. We just want to turn our body.
For years this game has gotten closer to realism. This year all of a sudden you guys don't care about realism and want to throw UI overlays everywhere and break the ability to turn left and when you get criticized for it, it turns into a giant joke where you're trying to defend how difficult something is technically to someone who understands how this stuff works far more intimately than you could possibly understand. Now I'm being told "nah just think of it as fortnite, we don't actually go for realism here." That's total BS.
So, for the millionth time, tell your technical team they're full of it and a guy with a decade of experience isn't buying it because he knows how lazily it was addressed. Y'all had a year to make sure we could still turn our player properly and you just turned it off. Take the L and say you screwed up and you'll fix it back to its "intended usage" as you put it.
To do anything less is just to say you guys got super lazy with it and you going "coding is hard, man" to a guy who does it every day and has done so every day for 10 years is hardly the right way to approach my feedback to you.
There are two things in this world I understand:
- This game I've been playing for 20+ years
- Programming.
I just can't be BS'd on this topic man. Stop trying.
