The "exhaust engine" is really bothering me.
It is very arcadey. The "power meter" on the ice is very obnoxious and not the least bit authentic or realistic. I feel like this sort of mechanic belongs in Street Fighter, not NHL 24.
More importantly, this "issue" could easily be addressed by just making fatigue more prominent. Your line is caught out there hemmed in your zone, the other team gets change and fresh players, and then you're in trouble because your line is tired and theirs isn't. Make the speed penalty for fatigue way higher - especially when it's in the "red", wherever that is determined to be - and maybe even add in some hunched over/barely moving skating animations. It will be hard to get the puck out of the zone, you will try to get a cover with your goalie or an off-the-glass and out. You arrive at the same outcome as the "exhaust" engine, without the gimmicky, arcadey stuff. And it requires the offensive team to get fresh legs, which the "exhaust engine" is completely missing.
Likewise, goalies could have a fatigue bar too, that goes down with lots of shots/movement, goes up between faceoffs and between periods.
Again, same outcome, done more authentically/realistically, no gimmicky/arcadey stuff. I guess "improved fatigue engine" isn't as marketable as "exhaust engine". Its kind of insulting that EA thinks hockey as a sport is so boring that we need "special move power bars" in the game.

@KlariskraysNHL This system seems like it was definitely geared towards WoC. I think it’s a great idea, only if it requires actual puck movement to make a difference and not just half wall to the point and back on the power play for example.
I’m my opinion, this should ONLY decrease the defensive team attributes and not increase the offensive teams. I feel like shooting could become a little overpowered and we would see more long range shots go in that probably shouldn’t. - KlariskraysNHL2 years agoHero
@Beauts90Nah it's geared towards Ultimate Team imo. They hate skillzoning defense so the best way to punish them is a system like this. This means a controlled player more than likely has to take the player closest to the player with the puck to force a turnover instead of just camping in front of the net waiting for the offense to make their move.
- Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran@KlariskraysNHL Just what the defense ordered, eh? A weakening defense for keeping the puck in zone and a wheezing floppy goalie the more shots you fling at him from anywhere on the ice.
They put a defenseman on the cover for 24 and showed tired defenseman, tired goalies, tic-tac-toe passing, custom dekes, sustained pressure, reverse hits while maintaining the puck at full speed and the defenseman get... shove.. - KlariskraysNHL2 years agoHero@Jammalammalam While Makar can play some great defense it is his offense that gets showcased. I've always said this and it always rings true... Offense must always reign supreme. It creates those insane highlight reels.

@JagavekovSee that is how you view it. I view the exhaust engine as their way to try and combat ragging the puck. They are encouraging people to be in the offensive zone and working the puck around. Being on the Penalty Kill will feel probably even worse now showing true nature to how it would be in real hockey with them tiring and the offense getting better chances. You can't just hold onto the puck in the offensive zone to get the meter up you gotta cycle and get shots. Also note while the defense gets weaker the offense also gets a boost in stats. So you can't go around skill zoning on defense you actually have to attack and force plays. And your method doesn't work for WoC so this system takes care of all the modes.I think, to @Jagavekov 's point, this can be accomplished without the need for an arcade-type meter being displayed on the ice/along the boards.
The U.I. is already in place to show your line's energy levels - why not just have that appear on-screen in the bottom right/left corner at points when their energy has decreased to dangerous levels?
As for combating ragging the puck, I don't think the video showcased players passing the puck and controlling it in their own zone for a period of time, which is what raggers do.

I read on you tube Tougie24 channel who has played the game and as expected they have not listening to the offline community about full presentation so now we know for sure they do not care one bit about us who complained several months about the condensed presentation it is all about online gaming.

The Intros are still short unfortunately. The philosophy is getting people into games as fast as possible. Which does suck for people like us who wants that extra immersion like we used to have.
- Juhani_91_912 years agoSeasoned Ace@nhluser About me is sadly, that EA Sports want focus only to online game modes and forget offline players. I understand, that online game modes are popular, but still there are players, who don't care online game modes. And these players EA Sports has forgot, when they are developing the game for players, who playing online game modes. For example on creation zone is lot off things, whom should update or fixed.

@nhluser you have got to be kidding me they are still short that is so frustrating. Maybe it’s because it’s a beta of the game but I know the minute presentation stuff comes out I will petition for the presentation mode to come back no questions asked.

It particularly goes for drop-in. Now if you get a group of players essentially diamonds and elites vs a group of average players (golds - silvers), you can be sure the game will sit on one side of the ice for the entire game (more than it is already) and the waekest team will never get back on track once their exhaustion bar is in the red. The superior team will dominate more than ever and the average players stuggle more than ever.
And by the same time, make more poeples quits games than ever before. I hardly see how this can be particularly good for CHEL. - KlariskraysNHL2 years agoHero@Tigidooh The bigger the skill gap the better. With the new controls being easier to pull off moves it means people need to actually use their brain and do things better than their opponents. Drop-Ins is always gonna be a trainwreck. Maybe the new dev team will give us lobbies or some other solution in the future to try and form 6v6 Drop-Ins but even that will see set people on teams looking to prey on the weak.
I'm a 6's all human EASHL club player. I mostly play with fairly average people and we go against some great teams. If some of the better teams out there control the game it's on us to learn and get better. Online gaming isn't ever fair and when it comes to drop-ins you just hope you find enough people to form a team. - Tigidooh2 years agoRising Ace
@KlariskraysNHL
The skill gap between the good and the average/bad team/players is already a thing and I'm all for it and online gaming isn't ever fair, that's true. Doesnt make the new fatigue system any more good nonetheless, it's only going to make the elitist even more elitist and push away anyone struggling with the game or with low hockey IQ.
I guess it can work fine for clubs and organised groups, I'll give you that but drop-ins is already a pain in the a$$ sometimes and it aint getting any better with this.
Anyway, guess it's here to stay in 24 so we'll see how it goes. Hope it's tweaked properly. - KlariskraysNHL2 years agoHero@Tigidooh We all know that Drop-Ins isn't a great thing it once was. Like I said maybe the new developer team will work on a solution to make Drop-Ins more accessible and easier for finding matches.
