NHL25 Controls
Hi, I have played NHL since 2006. The skill stick was the best part of the game, and last year in NHL24 they completely ruined it by making puck protect holding left/right on the right stick. And on ...
I understand that- but when I am gliding, or am in the offensive zone, or just anytime I'm not hustling just trying to glide and stick handle I accidently press in L3. As I said.... it's the exact same same problem as having reverse hit on R3. I don't understand why we can't just have some common sense control mapping. I've played this game for so long and this has honestly ruined the experience for me, Everyone keeps say "skill issue" like man I'm a very high level player in this game and this is a real issue.
I get what you're saying. I had the same issue and ended up remapping the controls. It's very frustrating for sure.
All the more reason to work towards having more customization IN GAME for control layouts. Here's another scenario using total control, you poke check the puck off an opposing player, there's that split second where the puck becomes free within reach of both you but you don't get possession right away, you attempt a stick lift hoping to at least stop the other player grabbing it again only to finally gain possession and end up doing the face button deke associated with the same face button and turning the puck over. I could honestly live with having an option to just disable face button dekes on total control as much as others probably wouldn't mind having the option to disable the reverse hit as well. Total control is still great for one button hip checks and the icon passing is pretty useful at times as well and why I feel it's superior over skill stick at this point. Before protect puck was changed holding forehand or backhand would override the hustle input and automatically put you in a glide. One problem solved and another one unintentionally is created. I'm not one of the people who has the issue with misclicking my sticks but I can understand the frustration of inputs working against each other in this game.
I would literally pay thousands of dollars to have this feature removed off L3. I'll donate $5,000.00 to a Charity of EA's choosing if they remove protect puck off L3. IM DEAD SERIOUS.
I'd love to see an option for mapping controls in game. For now though, you can go to the controller settings on your console and remap the controls. The downside is that this changes the controls for every game and app outside of NHL. Or you can get a programmable controller. I remapped L3 and R3 to the paddles on the underside of an Xbox Elite controller and this completely solved the problem for me.
The only controller capable of this is the Xbox Elite controllers. (Which I do have). The reason being is this is the only controller on the market that you can "unmap" buttons on. Even if you were to get a controller where remapping is an option it doesn't matter because when you remap the button to a paddle the button is still stays active- it's just also on a paddle. I personally hate playing NHL with the Elite controllers- they just don't feel right for me playing chel. I prefer the basic controllers. And really, should I have to buy an elite controller when having in game mapping- something that should be so simple to do- should be what we have.
When I say I play thousands of hours on this game I wasn't kidding- I went back and looked its over 3000+. I just want EA to know this is a serious issue but they just don't seem to care.
We can never seem to get tangible change from EA, so I think I'm going to pay to create an expose video on the NHL series and all its downfalls, and then blast it everywhere with paid advertising so EA gets the hint. If you don't believe me- look at how much money I've spent on HUT teams on my previous accounts... All this effort just to get proper controller mapping is wild.
