Not being able to protect puck with A and not being able to use LT correctly is horrible lol. Game is so awkward and unplayable not being able to use LT smh
- ChiTownSwagger912 years agoSeasoned Veteran@337fd0ef3db761a8 LT wasn’t ever used correctly in last years game. It was an exploit. Basically bad offense was getting rewarded and there was no point In passing. You don’t need to protect puck or use LT. Just play actual hockey

My only issue with the controls is that it's almost impossible to lay a hit on someone. I figured out you have to pull the right analog stick back before pushing it forward, but by then the guy is already past you.

@RelentlessJ69 You can line up the hit by keeping the right stick held down for as long as you want and then push it up to time your hit.
- 2 years ago@TasteofChicago91 Again, I’m an offline player l don’t exploit LT. it’s unplayable without having total control of it. I use it in many diff ways that I promise you make the game feel more real
- martmet2 years agoNew Vanguard@337fd0ef3db761a8 This should be fixed ASAP, the X/A protect puck moved to the analog stick is HORRIBLE and triggers unwanted animations constantly. It's impossible for me to deke manually without constantly going into this animation. In 23 I would score on breakaways 80-90% of the time and now I'm not even at 20%.

Bro same thing that stupid animation animation screws up my manual dekes everytime! I’m having the same issues on the breakaways as well with the manual deke they really need to fix it

Puck protect does not actually disengage when I release it in a game. In free skate, it's much easier to maneuver the stick, but in any game server it is like you are fighting the controls... I completely let go of everything while on a breakaway, and my player still is fumbly and wonky with the R stick movements, taking away consecutive L to R movements as potential goal scoring methods.

LT can still be used:

You can just no longer engage it while in the slot, and you can no longer utilize protect-puck to further exploit the animation.
- 75fd980e1b1839002 years agoSeasoned Veteran@337fd0ef3db761a8 The easiest fix to the LT issue was simply decreasing your players attributes while using it so that he couldn't spin around unrealistically, but still allowing you to make proper hockey plays by opening your hips to protect the puck. It really shows they are not familiar with hockey outside of a casual, beginner standpoint.
The protect puck mechanic is fine only in a vacuum - in reality, what happens is that you are skating down ice with the puck, using turbo (which many of us have bound to paddles for easy/near-constant access), and then your stick handling becomes deactivated. Now, not only do you have to hold the L stick to move your player down ice, and the turbo button, AND the LT (which many advanced players do on breakaways for quicker control of the stick), but you have to remember to release the turbo button if you are going to move your stick in any direction. It's just clunky, makes little sense, and seems to be an overlap of mechanics caused by inexperience with the finer control aspects of the game that have been in place for years.
The skill stick was the ONE thing NHL games had going for it and that made it fun, yet realistic, to play. And they've gone and tried to recreate the wheel, obliterating the logic that was in place for no good reason.- 2 years ago@75fd980e1b183900 Yup a big part of using LT is on a breakaway to set up a move like real hockey and now there’s less creativity and unique real moves you can create.

I don't get the constant shots at EA for nOt uNderStanDiNg bAsiC hOcKeY when they're literally trying to simplify the actual sport so that it's accessible with a videogame controller.
- 2 years ago@KidShowtime1867 The thing is , it was literally more real and accessible in past years lol. You wanna give people total controls to have fun that’s fine but I don’t think people realize that’s an ironic statement bc now players that learned to play this game as good and real as possible have way less control and creativity.
