Yes we shown as compatible but neither of us can figure out how to play against each other - only able to play co-op chel and not interested - want to play against each other and can’t find any instructions on how to do

Cross play is only CHEL and HUT. I think that is as those modes connect to EA servers while online versus is peer to peer.
it is super dumb, idk why they don’t have cross play in online versus.
Your only option is to both create HUT teams and do it that way.
Trying this weekend as can’t invite by user name so will try with HUT team name maybe that will do it
even private 3 v 3 would be fun and don’t understand why this isn’t a problem in NFL but is is NHL

As already mentioned, there is no cross play for Online Versus. Hopefully, we'll get this added in a future game. Currently, your best bet is to match up against each other in HUT through a private game.
