It affects how fast/well you track the puck in the offensive zone - It helps with tipping, to an extent, allows you to receive passes (and do one-timers) slightly better, and you're able to react to rebounds faster.

I'll need confirmation but I believe it provides a tiny boost to shot accuracy around the net as well.
