Re: Pull goalie during off play

Hi there, @13ulow

Are you talking about pulling the goalie so he goes to the bench for an extra skater? If so, on Xbox those controls are LB+View button. The View button is to the lower left of the Guide button and has 2 overlapping rectangles on it. I'm not quite sure what the controls for PS are though. Most likely, L1 and tapping the pad on the back of the controller.

  • Yes, pulling the goalie to get an extra skater.

    The issue is not what buttons to use, but WHEN to do it during off play, meaning between the whistle and before the screen comes back to show the ice and zooms in on the face off.

    As mentioned, sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don’t. Timing looks to be the primary suspect.

    So, is there any instructions on WHEN to press to pull the goalie without pausing the game and going to the menus?

    Apologies for the confusion. Thanks for the added details. What I have noticed is that the goalie still gets pulled, but there is no notification this. Give it a try and let me know if that's the case. Just hit those buttons once to pull them and see if they skate to the bench when the puck drops.

  • I have tried to do that - just pressning once. Sometimes with the desired result, mostly not. Tried at different sequences in the off play interval.

    And hey, I want the goalie out before the puck drops and the extra skater being ready before the puck drops. Otherwise pressing the buttons when the team has lined up for the face off is not an issue.

    @13ulow

    Have you tried pulling the goalie before they line up for the faceoff? In Squad Battles, try pausing right after the stoppage, before they've lined up.

    As far as those controls not working every time, have you tried another controller? I'd just like to have that ruled out as I'm not seeing other reports of this.

  • I have several controllers but not seen this related to which one I use.

    This is not a new issue. I have been wondering about the timing for maybe all NHL versions 🙄

    And yes, in offline games there is a possibility to pause and pull the goalie via the menus. That is however only possible once in online games due to the ”timeout” limitation.

    I would still like to know when to press. Maybe some other gamer can let me know? Or confirm that they too has this issue..?

    You should be able to press the button combination to pull the goalie pretty much any time. It sounds like it's working sometimes for you. It should be working every time though. I'll keep an eye out for other reports of this. If you happen to be able to get video of it, let me know. I know that would be challenging since we'd have to be able to see you actually pull them.
