The best ping I've ever seen is 32ms, but it's normally between 40 and 50.

32 - 50 still is not a bad ping. I'd love to get my ping that low. If you normally have 32 and you instead hover around 40 - 50, that's a good ping. The distance to the server as well as the traffic on your router and in your area is going to effect your ping. Your router ping isn't based on the connection to our servers. It's most likely reading the connection to your ISP's network.
