I've been seeing the same thing over the last couple of days. Don't get me wrong, a well-timed hip check is a thing of beauty. But the way hip checks are working currently in NHL 24 could use some tuning.
As it stands now the skill gap EA wanted to create with the changes to the way checking works is gone because there's no need to use anything but the hip check. Hip checks are just as if not more effective than normal checks. They don't seem to be limited by the checking attribute, height or weight of the checker and also seem to completely disregard the size, and strength of the player being checked. Reverse-hitting also seems to be useless against the hip check. And as an added bonus there's no follow through animation so even if you miss you're not taken out of the play.
I love a good hip check, but this shouldn't happen:
