Server selection should prioritize minimizing competitive advantages
I would really love to see matchmaking attempt to mitigate the server advantages that exist and to identify the closest thing to a neutral server that exists for both teams. I think most people would agree that it is not fun nor competitive playing against a team of guys that all live near Montreal and pull their QC server while your team of Central / Southeast players has to overcome a massive ping deficit. Surely a system can be designed that chooses a server that makes the game as fair for both sides as possible? For example if you had a team of West vs East players the ideal server from a matchmaking perspective that would minimize ping advantages for either side would probably be the Central Server or perhaps the server that's near Texas. Currently under this scenario it would just choose either a West server or an East server and it wouldn't be a fair game for one side or the other. This would make online play a much better experience for the average person who isn't fortunate enough to live next to the most populated servers. You can't erase ping advantages in online play, but we can take steps to make them less impactful and create a more level playing field.
