Team based matchmaking

This years NHL game has been absolutely ridiculous when it comes to teams matching in skill, whether it’s in rivals or champs. It’s so unfair when your team is 86-87 overall and you’re getting matched up against guys who have McDavid, Gretzky, Lemieux, Hughes and Doughty as their first line. Please make a fix for this and match teams to similar overalls.

    Hi there, @XxWallerxX

Team overall isn't part of matchmaking. What is considered is the division you're in as well as your region. Since the game released several months ago, a very high amount of players are now having an average team overall of 88+. Also, a team's overall doesn't necessarily relate to their skill. Personal skill can mean that a lower overall team can beat a higher overall team.

Max team overall NEEDS to be added right next to choosing the max ping you want to play against. Also how the overalls of teams are determined need to be fixed, too many people load up their first 3 lines with the highest overall players they can possibly get and then throw in garbage players in the last line to drag their overalls down. Right now either I go up against super teams or teams far below mine, I rarely land against somebody with an evenly matched team. I don't care how good or bad the other person is, I am immediately behind the 8 ball when my opponent has nearly an entire team filled with players that are at minimum 3 or 4 overall rating points better than my best player. Of course I then hold a huge advantage when going up against somebody that doesn't have a single player close within 5 overall of my worst player. What does it result in? A ton of people quitting games because, as expected, the team with overwhelming player talent crushes the person who has a team that is completely in over their heads.

Now is it possible to beat a team that is comprised of players that are much better than yours? Well of course, it is possible, but incredibly difficult especially when considering the individual skill level isn't all that massive between players in the 3rd and 4th divisions. It also leads to far too many games where you can outplay your opponent but their super team is just too much to overcome. Yes - it does happen in real life when a extreme underdog wins a game but the difference is we are playing a video game, I don't want to play as the massive favorite or massive underdog. Add max team overall as an option, rework the way overall is determined (probably top 5 or 6 OVR players carrying the most or all the weight of a score) and we will find ourselves having much more entertaining and fully completed games.

Won't happen though because that would definitely prevent some people from opening up their wallets and spending hundreds of dollars on packs knowing they can't get a leg up as easily anymore on people who only buy the base game and spend nothing else and can avoid going up against them. We all know EA will never let that happen.

I bought a "super team". I'm just a 50yo nurse who works long hours and loves playing this game. I don't have time to grind, but I have a good wallet. So I pay to keep up and have fun. I'm not any good but my team is a monster. I'm in division 5 and my record is around 500. I have no shame and I'm glad EA allows old working geezers like me to try and keep up with the basement dwellers and the kids with nothing but free time.
