As long as you keep the defenseman in the correct position and are not spamming the button, you should have success with poke checks. There are times were I time it incorrectly and the winger is able to go right around me because of my mistake. I have auto back skate off so this also helps me turn my players around manually when needed. The AI on superstar is also more difficult this year than last year in my opinion. But timing and not spamming the poke check works really well this year.

Yup, exactly. It's nice to see someone acknowledge that mistakes can be made that result in a less-than-ideal outcome, rather than just claim things are broken and need to be reverted.

Is it a copy and paste , I don't think so, game feels to different to me.- ChiTownSwagger912 years agoSeasoned Veteran
The problem is that defense gets punished immensely and you have to be perfect but a person on offense can make 5 mistakes before they lose the puck.. even when they get it poked off perfectly it’ll go to another teammates stick or right back or the poke of the puck is so weak..
why is the animation so slow but nearly every animation for offense is as quick as lightning. It’s bullspit

Why do you have to be so exactly perfect on poke check and even when you are it doesn’t work half the time and it’s slow.. but a guy on offense can skate into traffic and lose the puck 3 times and get it back?
Why are we not punishing the offense for making bad decisions too? In the same way we punish defense?
This is the argument I have been making here for years. Now with Total Control there is face button deking. Hit the button and if you're deking skill is high enough, you get the deke. The equivalent on D would be if I could press the RB and if my stick checking is high enough I would be successful but nope - its still RB, aim stick, skate correct speed and direction, hold your tongue to the left and sacrifice a chicken (Then hope the attacker doesn't just pick it back up again anyway or that it goes to the trailing attacker)
