The problem with goalies in NHL 24 w/ some research

So I was doing a little experiment with the goalies in practice so I can get a closer look at the mechanics. I believe the fatigue system on the goalie is too harsh, just like it's far too harsh for players under full pressure.

If the gifs are too small, right-click and open them in a new window.

In this clip, I'm testing the goalies movements as close to the blue line as possible and making sure the circles are as tight as I can get it. The movements of the goalies here are insanely erratic. Not to mention he fatigues faster. A flimsy, slow wrist-shot from here when the goalie is out of his crease just leaves an entire side open for a rebound.

Something new I learned. The puck doesn't even need to be moving in the zone in order for the goalie to lose fatigue. In this clip alone, doing absolutely nothing the goalie loses about 25% of his fatigue. Even if your team has possession of the puck in the D zone, your goalie will continue losing fatigue by doing nothing.

Even when keeping the puck as far away from the goalie as possible, the erratic movements of the goalie while holding the puck to the side is exaggerated. Not only is the goalie reacting to the stick placement, but he's also reacting to the auto-mini stickhandling that's going on. His stamina is also going down faster with his movement. I can only imagine what this would be like if I was near the goalie and moving.

Hm. Oh wait...

It's really difficult to work with these goalies, especially when you are at full pressure and it's nearly impossible to retrieve, pass, and clear pucks from the zone.

  • Oh I've already spoke my mind about how they treat goalies stamina.  Hated the whole interview with NoSleeves about goalies.  They aren't treated like NHL caliber goalies.  They designed goalies stamina to be that of a beer league goalie in their late 40s with a beer gut and smokes 2 packs a day.   Or they watched Mighty Ducks movie and designed it after Goldberg.

There clearly wasn't much testing done with the fatigue system (keep in mind this is even *after* changes).

Had a good stretch of 3 games in EASHL where players just kept ragging until the pressure bar was filled for easy goals.

Goalies in Ones are already bad but now they have 0 stamina the entire time since there are no real stops in play - no longer about playing great defense but just blindly firing and hoping to outscore

@TTZ_Dipsy Goalie fatigue shouldn't exist in 1s imo. Also controlling the puck needs like a 75% nerf when it comes to building pressure. Also I'd lower the shot build up by around 15%. Now if it could be done I'd have the current setup work how it does right now if these actions happen on a powerplay.

Since there isn't line changes in EASHL the whole pressure system needs greatly toned down. The whole 2 seconds out of the zone should have been a thing this last patch. They treat the pressure system as something that should happen way too often when it should be more of a rare type thing of a team truly controlling the game in all aspects.

It honestly wouldn't be so bad if the defense could reduce offensive pressure by poking, blocking/stopping shots, etc. and build their own meter to boot
