Two local players playing online together

Hello all! I would like to play NHL 24 with online friends with my son who is playing with me on the same Xbox S. We have an Xbox Core gaming subscription as well. Does anyone know if that is possible? I'll try to simplify the ask:

-1 Xbox S

-1 Xbox Core Online Gaming Subscription 

-2 Xbox controllers played by my son and myself

We would like to play against friends online. They have the same setup and would like to play 2v2 against us. Is that possible?

    Unfortunately, that YouTube link doesn't answer the specific question I wanted answered. I was able to talk to a friend that has played NHL for years. Basically all you need to do is to create a free Xbox account and sign in the second controller as that. You still need some sort of subscription on one of the accounts as far as I can tell. But now I can play father son versus father son online. Hopefully this helps somebody as well.
