Both sides of puck play in HUT feels really clunky and I'm really hard pressed to continue playing this year. Hitting, stick checking / stick handling, basic physics, etc. feel laughably unrealistic....

Thanks for all the feedback. As far as clunky play goes, keep in mind you're probably using players with 70s - 80s overalls. That's going to give a much different gameplay experience than having a team stacked with 92+ players and multiple 99s.
Cross-checking and elbowing have a chance of occurring during charging calls. So, you'll get one of the 3. I still haven't seen a cross-checking penalty in 24 so they seem to be kinda rare. The same goes for elbowing. Regardless, a penalty was earned during a charge.
More shots does not equal a win. You can put up triple the shots, but if you're just throwing them on net, your chances of scoring aren't as high as if you set up good scoring chances. Scoring hasn't been as easy this year since what was cheese last year doesn't go in as easy. Goals, in most cases, are harder earned now.

@EA_Aljo with a little adjustment this exactly happens when you play with better players, e.g. OVR 82+ and UI opponent has players below OVR 80. Actually it happens also in RIVALS mode. The game is somehow equalizing the teams causing worse teams playing much better and making the game nonsense :/

The game does not equalize the teams. If that were the case, everyone would use bronze and silver players.
