What is wrong with matchmaking

me and my friend who are gold 2 and silver 1 will get put into 3's games against a full squad of champions and diamonds pretty routinely. And the worst part is this comes after waiting 4 minutes to find a game. I'm fine with waiting that long but atleast put us in a game where we have a slight chance of winning.

EASHL is always dead this time of year so we get what we get. Last year my buddy and I (diamond 1) matched against a pair of players who were ranked LOWER than Bronze 3 (what is that, Wood rank?)
