Why I don't like NHL 24
These are all from the same game but my issue is that this is every game I play. These are just the goals let alone the myriad of other issues I have with the game. https://youtu.be/8HG8j0Q2j_U?si=x...
I'm not going to break it down like Showtime did a fantastic job of. But yes you are right in that real hockey, the plays would not unfold like they do. That said they only unfold the way they did because of the way the user influenced the decision making of the other players. You say they don't give the ability to cover plays when you make mistakes that are minor. These are NOT minor mistakes, these are major ones. Here's my shortened breakdown though:
The first: Two missed body checks in a row on a rush lead to a 2v1 and then you failed to play the passer or the shooter. Instead you tried to LB which is more meant for shot blocking. That first goal was 3 mistakes.
The second: The player is facing and poking away from their momentum at their goaltender.
The third: The user has two guys below the boards to play one player with one coming from behind the other side of the net to body check. along with the fact that the cross crease goes through because the user is trying to DSS instead of stand on top of the shooter to deny their chance of picking up the puck.
The fourth: Hedman disregards man to man coverage to hit Gretzky and 2v1 him, Leaves Lemieux open and now mixes the Defense up. Gretzky to Lemieux and back make a nice give and go for the finish.
The fifth: Just a good play by the winger to attack the slot when the opening was there and get a good chance.
The sixth: Defense fails to protect the middle again and gets burned for it... sure they lose the puck but they get it back in the high slot danger area where you should not let anyone shoot.
The seventh: Again the defense needs to be on top of the shooter and not sitting in the middle to block the pass. This is not the old games, you can't just stand in the middle of the lane and stop everything. You have to be right on top of the skater to lower the chance of them picking up the puck and shooting it.
Again these are not minor mistakes, these are major ones that will absolutely lead to good chances, and good players will take those good chances and capitalize on them. The big thing I want to reiterate out of it all is just stop playing it like its older gen games, you need to be 80-100% on the shooter side of the cross crease or you will not intercept it. Standing in the middle is not a strategy anymore.
@hiperayand I completely disagree that is the correct direction that the game should of taken. It makes for a frustrating game that makes one more angry than satisfied to play.
I'm also the ducks not the Bruins.
Before I make my counter statement can you explain what you think the direction of the game should be? Are you saying that making these mistakes shouldn't lead to goals being scored because it is only one small mistake?
Essentially I think the game should have great ai, great defense, and less frustrating collision detection. If I get in a passing lane I should rip that puck. Why does the offensive player get 100% passing detection when a guy who is literally looking at the puck ignore it?
Why is every goal off the rush?
Why is sustained pressure despite a pressure system not rewarded?
Why do close to the net cross creases get the benefit of being one of the few ways to score where it incentivizes playing like I do.
Do you think I want to force cross creases all day? No. I want to make good hockey passing plays, but the AI isn't designed to get open. No matter what offensive system you play. They don't hang the boards well, they don't cut, they don't do anything well outside of stand near the backside post or stand at the point.
It creates a one dimensional style of hockey. I don't think that goals off the rush should be the main scoring method. I don't think you should get a speed burst from holding the charge hit button, I don't think you should get bailed out when a goalie makes a stupid save that should be a goal. Then let in a floater from the circles off a backhand shot.
Consistency, I just showed the goals as I've mentioned. The countless other times I almost yell in frustration as guys walk the puck through legs and skates is every game I play. The game took everything annoying about NHL 23 and made me dislike the series. That's a tall hill they had to get over and by god they did it. I need to make a full video. Of a game to demonstrate everything.
