Why I don't like NHL 24
These are all from the same game but my issue is that this is every game I play. These are just the goals let alone the myriad of other issues I have with the game. https://youtu.be/8HG8j0Q2j_U?si=x...
Before I make my counter statement can you explain what you think the direction of the game should be? Are you saying that making these mistakes shouldn't lead to goals being scored because it is only one small mistake?
Essentially I think the game should have great ai, great defense, and less frustrating collision detection. If I get in a passing lane I should rip that puck. Why does the offensive player get 100% passing detection when a guy who is literally looking at the puck ignore it?
Why is every goal off the rush?
Why is sustained pressure despite a pressure system not rewarded?
Why do close to the net cross creases get the benefit of being one of the few ways to score where it incentivizes playing like I do.
Do you think I want to force cross creases all day? No. I want to make good hockey passing plays, but the AI isn't designed to get open. No matter what offensive system you play. They don't hang the boards well, they don't cut, they don't do anything well outside of stand near the backside post or stand at the point.
It creates a one dimensional style of hockey. I don't think that goals off the rush should be the main scoring method. I don't think you should get a speed burst from holding the charge hit button, I don't think you should get bailed out when a goalie makes a stupid save that should be a goal. Then let in a floater from the circles off a backhand shot.
Consistency, I just showed the goals as I've mentioned. The countless other times I almost yell in frustration as guys walk the puck through legs and skates is every game I play. The game took everything annoying about NHL 23 and made me dislike the series. That's a tall hill they had to get over and by god they did it. I need to make a full video. Of a game to demonstrate everything.
The game isn’t good and yes other players do make mistakes that can lead to goals, etc. However when you look at the overall make up of this game it’s trash. It becomes more noticeable when you stop playing it for a while and then come back to it. Personally I’ve been playing MLB the Show. Now, this game of course just like any other has its issues as well. When I came back for a game of hockey the other day my initial reaction was wow!, this game is very bad. The Show has never made me say that. Like I said it has its issues but not to the extent that this game has. Same can be said for NBA 2K and Madden, the other sports games on the market

To be fair this one sells less copies than every one of those series. Baseball is an easy sport to replicate, and Madden has been not fun for years. The RNG is annoying in EA games.
The main issue I have is defense is non existent. You can stand up a guy, try to rip the puck. Guy will tank it walk through and get an easy break. It's like, I just want a consistent product that rewards smart hockey vs letting people force nonsense all day.
One great change that could be made is poke check having another option where you steal the puck vs just poking it out. Have stick battles between guys about who can play it better instead of just poke checking it and it immediately going to another player on offense.
I'm trying to figure out how a defenseman in the corner with his mark is "wildly out of position" according to the breakdown provided.
Defenseman should be by their marks. Defense in hockey is not passively standing in the crease while the other team has the puck on the perimeter. This is the biggest fallacy perpetuated by the way the game balancing makes people play defense in this game. If you did that IRL, great shooters would score 3-5 goals a game picking corners through the massive amounts of screens provided as well as having unlimited time and space to place passes and shots as they please.
Could the defense have better better? Sure. Does this game flow like real hockey? No. Do teams breakdown in realistic ways? No. Do passing lanes open due to proper cycling and center lane drives? No.
The direction I and probably many others would like to see this game take is a direction where the AI properly mark their assingments in the zone. This starts with the AI being properly programmed to mark assignsments via man-to-man rather than passive zones like it's timbit hockey. This also would require the offense to then properly cycle the puck both low and high to create time and space like real hockey teams do. Then to top it all off, movement speed needs to be taken down from mach 8 to "realistic" in order for all of these concepts to accurately play out.
The in-zone aspect of this series might as well be like comparing basketball to hockey when compared to real life. It's not even the same sport. Thats how incredibly far away it is in its current state.

Two defenders, below the goal line, one of which is actually facing the wrong direction. So yes, wildly out of position is an accurate statement to describe that scenario.
