Classic NHL94 Controls

I see others have posted separate threads on basic game requirements, so here's another.

Will Nhl25 bring back the classic controls that were removed in the 24 edition?

Many of us require/enjoy the classic controls and were unable to play last year's game.

New features, preorders, and other discussions really have no relevance to us until this is answered.

Until then we're all still with nhl23.

  • I agree with keeping the 94 controls as a possibility! Its easier for new/ newer (younger) or older (parents) to jump into the action with their kids. I dont think it would be too difficult for programmers to put that into the game considering you are saying players can incorporate it themselves via the system? Hopefully you are able to carry on this play style for the players and their families. Thank you for your time and we all look forward to seeing the new product you are able to produce for our entertainment.

It would be helpful to know exactly what needs to return. As far as I can tell, the only difference is faceoffs where you need to flick the right stick down instead of press a button. If you have any feedback, please let me know. Thanks!

Speaking of controls. Any chance to re locate puck protect from L3 and reverse hitting from R3?

L3 puck protect messed up manual deking at times

We had this discussion last year. For those of us who have used classic controls for over 30 years, hybrid is not remotely close and is not an option.

I feel for those with disabilities too, who will be unable to play. I'm not sure you appreciate what a slap in the face that was last year. And this year, well I kind of expected it. At least I won't have to read these forums anymore.

Just don't remove the ability to play 22 or 23 online with friends. At least we still have something.

What controls would you change specifically?

See last year's forum. It's all there. Cheers.

I loved the controls in previous year's, it took awhile to figure out NHL 24 controls, though I did eventually get used to it. However, my son, who plays less than I do, stopped playing NHL with me, as he hated the hitting in the new controls and there was no way to "change controls" so that the hitting was the same as previous years. I loved playing with him, as he got so excited about maxing out the injuries in a game. Now he won't be playing again with this not being an option in controls. I will play, as I did get used to it, it just sucks not being able to play my franchise with my son.

Hey there. Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, the NHL 94 controls are not returning for NHL 25. The best I can advise is to modify the button mapping in your controller settings on your console.

    I appreciate the straight answer.

You may want to make this announcement more prominent. Last year I actually bought the game and couldn't play. I won't make that mistake again.

    Bye bye EA NHL franchise.

Dude seriously you sound like a kid refusing to his eat his veggies and making false threats to never eat again. Just learn something new and stop being a giant baby about it. Hybrid is very close to it. Were not living in 1994 anymore, NHL 25 is coming out, I think it's time to put our big boy pants on and try something new.

I give our community manager a lot of credit for dealing with you, I wouldn't even bother responding to such silliness.

The qua-zai futuristic controls are not learnable bro.. I too really rely on the NHL 94 controls & after being a loyal customer to EA for 25 years I get spit in the face & I have no intentions on buying the EA NHL games again unless they are brought back

I'd like to pass on some feedback for you. I know the Hybrid controls are pretty close to the NHL 94 controls. What about them doesn't quite work out for you? Thanks!

  • For me it is the shoot button. I like the basic shoot button and not have to choose between wrist and slap shot.

That sounds like a wrist shot. You could just use the wrist shot button in that case.

Some situations call for a wrist shot...some slap shot...easier with one button like in 94 controls. Where it is based on shot power.

Okay, in search of a solution for this confusing control or even a “classic mode”, I have now ended up here.

To give a brief explanation... a few days ago, a PS5 was set up here for sports games – and I recently beat, scored, celebrated and bit into the controller with NHL 2005 with countless seasons and a lot of fun and sore fingers... albeit on the PC. Then there was no longer any NHL for the PC. :/

Now, I thought, it's time for the heroic return to the ice. I only lost, not won a single bully, but at least got the puck into the goal with a few controls.

I'm not in the game for “operating 70 buttons variably to get the last effect out of ice hockey” - I'm here for the fun. But I'm not having any fun right now... because it's way too complicated. What's wrong with a “classic mode” for the controller? A mapping of the controller and the omission of features that I don't need for my living room offline tournaments with friends.

FC24 also has a “classic mode”... so why not in ice hockey, too?

Did you try the Hybrid controls? They are almost identical to the NHL 94 controls.
