It's time the player name censorship got fixed.

I literally can't make my CHEL player name 'Jimmy Snuggerud', because the censorship implementation in its infinite wisdom thinks there's an intended slur in the middle of it. The same happened with 'Trevor Cox' some years ago, but that's neither here nor there, and more recently with some other (real) player name that had nothing to do with any kind of slur, swear word or anything of the sort!
There are a bunch of 2 brain-cell kids playing with far more egregious player names and they get none of that nonsense. It's time to fix that once and for all! At the very least, actual, real, high-profile players' names can't get denied because of a very poorly implemented censor.

  • Sadly sometimes if a name can be used in a nasty way it gets banned even if it's a legit name.  The community sadly can't be trusted and yes people find weird names that work.  Usually if reported they can get addressed.

Unfortunately, as KlariskraysNHL mentioned, we can't allow names that can be used in an offensive manner. Obviously, we don't catch every instance of this. If you are seeing any, you're welcome to report them to me in a private message or in game. If you report them in game and get a message back that it no action was taken, let me know and I'll get it looked into. Thanks!

So 'Snuggerud' is offensive, because changing one letter would create a slur contained within a name... ?
Ok. His play by play name is in the game, but using that last name is unavailable... Maybe implement exceptions for actual player names of real NHL players, at least.
Like I said, many unfunny kids have implemented various workarounds and use way more egregious player names than the aforementioned kind of censorship would allow for. It is in fact a weakly implemented thing and there's no good reason to not improve it.

Even if there was an exception for this, we couldn't stop people from using that name in an offensive way. Regardless, I absolutely get your point and hope we have a better system in place in the future.

  • Well, you can "stop people from using that name in an offensive way", because there's exactly nothing offensive about it and no way to make it offensive either. The one and only way to distantly 'use it in an offensive way' are switcheroo word plays that all the dumb kids playing the game are currently doing anyway and to prevent that, you'd have to censor practically every name.
But guess I'll give up for now... Everything about the set of circumstances is just dumb.
