I’ve noticed exactly the same issues. The game works occasionally, but most of the time it’s incredibly laggy – even though my ping shows under 10ms consistently. I’ve even tried to “worsen” my connection on purpose just to make the gameplay somewhat tolerable.
The game clearly desyncs. For example, I tested a regular online game using my fiber connection – ping showed 1ms, but in reality it felt like 100–200ms. Then I played with a mobile connection (where ping actually was 100–200ms), and weirdly enough, the game felt smoother and more consistent. That really tells you something is off.
I’m not surprised EA is doing nothing about this. All the value promises have already been broken. “Positioning matters” – yet even with max defensive awareness, standing in front of a pass with your player’s face directly toward the puck – it still clips right through you like you’re invisible.
The same intro cutscenes in Be a Pro have been there for over five years. I was already skeptical about buying NHL 25, but like a fool, I believed the marketing again. Now, me and my friends have firmly decided not to buy the next NHL game – we’ve simply had enough of broken promises and half-finished products.
Now I’m completely sure my time with EA NHL games is done – and clearly I’m not alone, based on the player numbers compared to last year.
All in all, I’m extremely disappointed with NHL 25 and how the organization treats its players.
