Huge problem in HUT economy (EA is also losing money)
So the problem is that we have not enough cards that upgrade (like xfactors). Many players are not interested in cards that expire in 2 months (event cards with overall cap). Also so many players are not interested in icon's, because they just are booring. We want to have players that we can also see playing in NHL (or other leagues).
So the game is 6 months old now and we only have 5 "chase" cards of active players (xfactors). Yes, we have pwhl xfactors, but honestly they are not very interesting for most of the players.
This means that when you aquire all the 5 xfactors, you just start building a coins stack, or card collection for the next xfactors. So when the next xfactors comes, we already have the recources to make all of them, which means we dont need to buy packs (ea losing money).
How to fix this: Release like 10 xfactors immediately and keep releasing them so we dont have so much time to build a coins stack or collection.
