I usually play with the Skill Stick controls but whenever they ask for this I have to switch to Total Control and press the button that is associated to the move. Doesn't have to be backhand either. Just do a game on rookie offline and it's done within the 1st period easy.
Yes, it has to be backhand. You say that you switch to Total Control and press a button to do the move. That means you are doing the move that is labeled as "backhand toe drag shot" in the controller settings.
I don't have a problem with doing backhand toe drag shots. I have completed the objective. I just wanted to point out the fact that the objective is misleading as it doesn't say "backhand".
