I'm a big fan of Bob Probert, one of the best enforcers the NHL ever had if you ask me. However I'm sure I won't be alone in saying that he is NOT EVEN IN THE SAME CITY let alone the same Arena as any other 95 overall player... Or an 85 overall for that matter. This is just another example of blatent foolishness for EVERY SINGLE PLAYER RATING in the game.
I find it's just ridiculous that 16 year old KIDS (regarding the Draft Collections) have higher ratings than Maurice Richard or Wayne Gretzky? Players that are barely past puberty are BETTER THAN THE LEGENDS of the game !?!?
Reason #3 for me not buying another NHL title for the foreseeable future.
The concept of EA NHL franchise, is to accumulate as much revenue as possible. Its the reason why they bring out these hordes of cards. Its an enticement to venture forth and purchase packs. Like I stated earlier in my reply. The game is generated on numbers. Numbers that for the majority, cannot be validated. Like hitting power. Wrist and slap shot power, etc etc. The rating system in the game belittles its intent. How cards can fluctuate between ratings ( same player), is the belittling factor. How an 86 Chara with 86 speed can go to a 92 with 91 speed is an example. A players speed in real life is a constant. However in the game it is not. Elevating these ratings in cards is the issue. The game is not one of true merit when it comes to emulating the true abilities of NHL players. Its an arcade game. Where there is no logistical stability.
