Although it was annoying to have the emblems lose value over time, it did give me a good idea when a lot of tapping was going on in my town. That helped me sort out when I needed to check in more, and how many buildings I need to have available.
People are already tapping less since the end of the Stonecutters event, but the time breakdown seems to be the same. I'm still leaving most things untapped, just because I hate to check into a neighbor's town and find nothing there. I can usually find time to check in later, but I don't expect everyone else to be able to do the same for me.
