Has anyone ever completed a task before, without using money/donuts?
Do you mean task or event? I've been playing since last July and I've completed every event since then.

I've completed a great many tasks without donuts. Quite a few events, too. My first event was Halloween 2013, and I completed it and nearly every subsequent event without having to spend donuts. The one exception was, of course, Easter, which I did not spend money on and did not complete.
