They won't be extra for long, just wait for the next update and you will need them

Keep your characters busy. I keep mine on either 12 or 24 hour jobs.
Check your town often and keep collecting those hearts.
Visit your friends often. If they don't have any cards to click then come back later and try again.
Get more friends.
