Inconsistent goo counts

I noticed the same. My theory is that it won't begin counting the additional goo until you get assigned the task, so if you hit the 10,000 (or every next 2,000) goo in a friend's Springfield or if you get several dozen goo at once from your gremlins, it won't begin counting the next 2,000 goo until you return to your own Springfield main screen.
