So far this event I've only tapped cannons and hatches on my neighbor visits until they no longer give out bells. Then if I have time I go back and get the rest of the cash. I'm also clearing the cannon and hatch in my town as much as I can. I think I am getting several hundred a day just from keeping mine clear. I got over 2000 bells just yesterday.
Most of the time I am not going back for the cash so I have more to tap on the timer the next day. I find if I tap out neighbors in the late afternoon I have to wait until then to visit again.
That's a good point I hadn't thought of. I find that if I don't go back for the cash I don't see the timer and forget what time I can start collecting again for bells.
