My instinct is character too - but doing the math it's going to depend on how much income you average:
1 premium character earns $260/4 hours for 80-90 donuts. That's without a multiplier of any kind. Let's assume you have a 400% multiplier and so in reality - that premium character pulls in 1300/4 hours
For 90 donuts you can get 3 jet bikes for a 6% bonus. To earn more off those decorations than the premium character - your average income per four hours needs to be more than 21667. If your four hour income is higher - the decorations are a better deal.
Better yet, if you still don't have the premium characters offered in the mystery box, take the 90 donuts and keep buying mystery boxes, and you'll build up premium characters, income earning Lard Lads, and bonus earning decorations
