No I remember reading speculation before he was released that he was a rapper. I didn't know that turned out to be false.

If he came out in tuxedo and tails and someone called him a classical pianist, we wouldn't see that as an insult. It certainly wouldn't be seen as "racist". But to even insinuate that someone is a rap musician seems to have a negative connotation. It's as if we're "accusing" a person of being a rapper. Ugh, but no. I haven't taken any of the comments I've read as disdain that he's a "rapper," more outrage that people are jumping to that conclusion because he's black and is wearing a chain or whatever. I have yet to read anything that makes me think the commenter is putting down rap music.

He's also not their son. It's stated explicitly in the dialog that he's Dr Hibbert's brother-in-law, implying he's Bernice's brother.

Sure, but I didn't buy him either. Homer and Hibbert had a conversation about the unfinished shed and the brother in law that unlocked him (or at least pointed out that he was available for purchase.)
