I agree with OP I much prefer the method for collecting in TQFS over TSTO. As neuroheart (hey, neighborino!) mentioned above, cash does pop a certain way in TSTO so collecting in a certain order in my town does minimize the issue, but the method in TQFS is still superior in my opinion.
Other things I think TQFS does better include no maddening auto select when selecting items/decos, no prompt when placing items in inventory, and I really like how you must unlock land areas, characters, and skins.
But the things I DON'T like about TQFS are really turning me off from the game. Premium items really don't help with you game play - no % increase or anything else that could help in the long run so you're spending premium currency for nothing; the premium items are wacky things that really don't fit - a giant sphinx stewie for example; having to get friends through Facebook; and things TSTO had to fix such as characters getting lost/hiding behind buildings, no easy way to locate characters, and dragging/moving items is very twitchy.
All in all, the Facebook thing and no game-play benefit for premium items are fatal to TQFS for me. I've been playing TQFS since day one, and have been mostly putting characters on 24 hour tasks because at this point I really don't care anymore. Guess I'm just holding on to see what they do with the Facebook thing.
