What triggers the auto-upgrading campfire glitch?

Not sure what triggers it but I had a weird one this morning. I've been harvesting zombies to craft walls and I have been getting the camp fire level up regardless of what I need to get from the c...

Mine was on bunnies for the next level-up. I thought great, I can set it tonight for bunnies, finish it tomorrow and get both challenges at once since tomorrow's is for bunnies. Then my campfire leveled up while I was squishing zombies and now it's on skeletons. Rats. :roll:
