I don't have the log, but I do have the gate. I've auto-upgraded four or five times now. Seems pretty random as it's happened while I was collecting different nightmares.
I tried to test it a bunch and it is random, had it auto happen tapping just one nightmare a couple times too. Think there's actually more than one bug. The zombie trick is pretty reliable. For me it started after I got the gate, but that was of course the point that I decided I didn't really need to upgrade anymore and switched to earning wailing walls.
