I agree that this update is sub-par with the rest of the episode tie ins we had. The previous ones followed a pattern where there was one free item and one premium item. That made lots of people happy. But now (assuming we don't get anything when the episode airs), all I see is a single limited time premium item. I'll disregard the aesthetics of the donut bird.

The way I see it is that it's a scheme to get us to spend donuts. Like how if there was a festival on and there was nothing to buy except for one item, everyone would buy that item simply because they feel as if they don't have anything else to do. Holiday souvenirs work the same way as do exhibition products. It doesn't matter if the product is worth it or not.

I think that both you and I share the same side in regards to this update, though I worded my opinions in a more formal manner. Also, I noticed that it all now makes sense if I look at it from a Dilbert perspective. Such is our wold I guess. *shrugs*
