Optimized Startup & Reset Routine (Including Network)
Use this weekly, or when performance, aim assist, or latency feels off.
Step-by-Step Clean Boot Routine
Step 1: Network Reset — ONT & Router
- Power off your Xbox and TV (you’ll do the hardware reset next).
- Turn off your router.
- Turn off your ONT (fibre box/modem) if accessible.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Power ONT back on first
→ Wait until all lights stabilize, especially Internet/LOS (Loss of Signal) indicators. - Then power on your router
→ Wait until Wi-Fi and Internet lights are fully active (about 1–2 min).
Step 2: Hard Shutdown Xbox
- Hold Xbox Series X console button (not controller) for 10 seconds until it fully powers off.
Step 3: Unplug Xbox Power Cable
- Wait 30 seconds to clear cached power state and memory.
Step 4: Turn Off and Unplug monitor / TV
- Power off using remote or panel.
- Then unplug from the wall for 10+ seconds (clears HDMI handshake & VRR cache).
Step 5: Plug Everything Back In
- Plug in TV first, then Xbox.
- Wait 10 seconds to allow full power stabilization.
Step 6: Power On — In This Order
- Turn on TV
- Wait until it’s fully booted, menus visible
- Turn on Xbox
- Confirm:
- Game Mode is active
- VRR and correct refresh rate are enabled
- You’re on correct HDMI input (e.g., “HDMI 1 - Game”)
Step 7: Controller Check (Optional but Helpful
- Go to Xbox Settings > Accessories > Test Controller
- Check for stick drift, trigger response, and clean motion
Step 8: Launch Game
- Let the game fully load
- Avoid jumping into a match while assets/settings are still initializing
- Consider entering a private lobby or training area to test responsiveness first
When to Use This Routine
- Once a week (or biweekly)
- Before tournaments, ranked climbs, or serious sessions
- After changing resolutions, displays, or controllers
- If gameplay feels “off”, even when settings haven’t changed
