sentinel bug?

I was just playing Apex, and when I look at my weapon while charging my Sentinel, I can charge it silently. Is this a bug? Or is this by design? (Sorry, I'm ignorant) I can do this in ranked matches too, and it seems like the other players can't hear the sound either.
