PC Chat Window - Stuck

The chat box has always been bugged for me. Issues change with nearly every single patch of the game. Currently, one I hit the enter key to open the chat box, I cannot type in it or exit the chat box window and the game becomes unplayable. Can't respawn, can't do anything since the chat window is still active and open. This requires force closing of the game within Windows. Previously (two patches ago and prior), I was unable to type in the chat box and requires me to click elsewhere on the screen to exit the chat box. In the last update/patch before the currently one, I was able to utilize the chat box normally and it functioned as intended, but no longer the case.

    Hi there,

Thanks for sharing this in the community. I understand your frustration, and I’m sorry to hear you’re running into an issue where the in-game chat window cannot be closed. We’ve also seen similar reports on Steam.

Regarding the behavior you described, can you reproduce it consistently in the newly released mode?

I’m not sure whether the following workaround may help, but some community players have shared that pressing "Enter" once while in the main menu or matchmaking screen, even if nothing appears to happen, can make the chat behave more reliably once you enter a match.

If the chat window gets stuck, you could also try:

    • Alt+Tab out of the game and back in
    • Pressing ESC once to open the menu, then closing it
    • Toggling the scoreboard or map, then switching back

Thanks again for your patience and support.

    Hi there,

A player shared a workaround that appears to have helped with this issue.

They found that the chat window getting stuck may be related to MSI Afterburner’s on-screen monitoring display. After disabling the on-screen overlay, the game was reportedly able to run normally again.

If you’re using MSI Afterburner, it may be worth turning off its on-screen display feature and testing whether that changes the behavior on your side.

Thanks, and if anyone else tries this, feel free to share whether it helps.

If you are running MSI Afterburner OSD, shut it off for now, till they find the fix. I can confirm this works on my rig,, tried several times already. It's not the fix, but it's a solution for now until they do fix it. Hope this helps some frustrated gamers.

Thanks for the suggestion, but turning MSI Afterburner's OSD did not resolve the issue and persists.

Hi, sorry this disrupted your game. I’ve merged your post into the existing thread. Please take a look at the pinned reply for a community-shared workaround.

Another workaround if you don't have a controller:
Unbind your enter key from opening the chat.
You can bind "j" to it, for example, and unbind "All Chat," which is "j" as standard.

    Thank you for your patience.

Okay, to stop this bug for now, is a 2-step method,, 1st: shut off MSI Afterburner OSD. 2nd: Hit the enter button as soon as its available. Make sure you can get in and out of chat before starting gameplay. The 2nd part is important, every time you don't hit enter asap, then go into game it will lock you up as soon as you hit chat. Hope this helps some gamers, until they find a fix for this Bug.

    yes and no

this is not AB, its RTSS(rivatuner statistics server).  the secondary app that installs when you install AB.  RTSS is what allows the OSD modules to function.

unchecking all the OSD modules in AB under "monitoring" lets RTSS close.  if you leave one OSD module checked, RTSS with reopen itself automagically.  once RTSS closes, the chat works like normal.

restarted the game and got into games 3 times.  all 3 times the chat worked normally with no RTSS running.  AB can still run for your fans, just cant easily see your fps now.

i would rather have a working chat than worry about remembering a workaround every game.

i would guess RTSS is seen as some cheating program to the "anticheat" stuff dice runs.  hopefully the devs can fix their game

you dont need to do all that.  do your first step and make sure RTSS is closed.  then chat works like normal.  nothing else needs to be done.
