EA Forums Online Security Newsletter - Volume 10
Happy Halloween 🎃! Trick or Treat Night marks the last day of the month, and it’s also the day we publish our monthly newsletter. Before we dive into this month’s topic, let’s take a quick look back at our previous edition, which was a collection of online security tips from past issues, all tied to Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October. Speaking of this special month for cybersecurity, have you shared any security tips with your friends or family? Have they shared their experiences with you, or have you come across an interesting article related to cybersecurity? If so, please share them with us in the comments to help spread awareness! This month’s security focus is Privacy & Data Protection in Online Games. As usual, we’ll share valuable insights around this topic and encourage you to join the discussion. Every participant, whether by joining the conversation or completing this month’s quiz, will receive a unique token of participation in the form of a forum badge! Stay safe! Privacy & Data Protection in Online Games Let’s Talk Privacy First Gaming is all about fun, but when you’re online, your data becomes part of the game too. Every time you log in, chat with friends, or complete a match, you’re leaving traces of personal information. That’s why knowing what’s collected, how it’s used, and what you can control matters. Good data protection isn’t just a checkbox; it’s about building a foundation: limiting what’s collected, securing it properly, and giving you meaningful control over your profile. When developers bake “privacy-by-design” into games, everyone wins. Why Your Gaming Data Matters In modern titles, you don’t just play, you participate. Achievements, stats, social play, linked platforms, and even targeted offers become part of your profile. That means your digital identity is just as important as your gamer tag. Mistakes here can expose your account to unwanted risks, such as phishing, identity theft, or oversharing. By taking a proactive approach to your privacy settings, you’re effectively controlling your account’s visibility and the footprint of your data. Think of it as choosing who sees your high-score highlights and who doesn’t. EA’s Commitment to Player Privacy You can learn how EA handles player information through “Investing in Privacy and Security” commitments. EA's global privacy program adheres to recognized best practices, ensuring that “privacy-by-design” is integrated into all games, services, and operations. This means EA provides notice of its data practices, offers users choices, and grants rights such as access, correction, and deletion of personal information. For us, gamers, that means the studio isn’t just collecting data for the sake of it; they claim to be mindful of scope, minimize processing where possible, and maintain safeguards against unauthorized access. Real Control: Adjusting Your Privacy Settings On your EA Account, you’ll find the “Security & Privacy” tab. This is where you take action. You can control how your data is used internally and by third parties, download a copy of your data, or request deletion of your account data. Welcome back to The Weekly Grind. Let’s get to it! What’s going on? It’s the final week of Skate-o-Ween and we’re 2 weeks away from the 7-Ply Maple Harvest Event. (We’ve got a mini-blog coming up before the event to give you the deets on what’s happening in San Van for the event, so hang loose.) We’ve also got “the best free gift in the Citadel” coming this Friday. With Daylight Saving Time ending for San Vansterdam on Nov 3, you may have noticed the daily resets happening an hour earlier. Our systems like Daily Resets go off the UTC timezone (it’s called universal for a reason), so the time really didn’t change on the back-end, but for our players who just experienced “Fall Back”, those resets are an hour earlier (9AM PT/ 1700 UTC). Nov 4, 2025 we pushed out a hotfix to address crashing issues on console where the resume feature would cause the game to crash. What we’ve heard Season 1 and our first Seasonal event received a lot of feedback that the team has taken on, from accrual rates of seasonal and event currency to items that can be obtained by spending that currency. The team is working to improve the tuning of the seasonal and event currency, as well as improve the offerings in the seasonal and event rewards. Additionally, we’ve heard feedback regarding the community parks updates for events. We’ve heard your feedback on Season 1 and the first seasonal event, and some changes we’re bringing to Season 2 are: As noted in our Season 1 blog, the first Season in skate. was always planned to be a little shorter, but all future Seasons will have around 100 tiers in the skate.Pass. Through Skate-o-Ween, we learned that the Event economy is not properly balanced and leads to a surplus of event currency that you can't spend. We’re making changes for the 7-Ply event later this month as a result and we’ll continue to evaluate to see if we need to make further adjustments to future events. We’ve got more info coming through a Dev Blog from the team at Full Circle. REMINDER: Free Gift On Oct 31, 2025, we dropped the Lightrunner set for everyone. All you have to do is log in to get the set (before Dec 2, 2025). Softlocks/Stuck Progression- ONGOING The work continues. The team is making progress on the various softlock issues, and we know we’re not done yet. We appreciate your dedication and sticking with us in Early Access as we work through these issues. Make sure to check our official skate_status account on X to keep up-to-date with news and info as it comes out. Keep that content coming! The skate-tshirt-contest has ended, and we’re going through the submissions and will be reaching out to potential finalists, then will work with the dev team to get the winners and start getting those designs in-game. As usual, we wanted to share a few pieces of content that caught our eye. Remember: if you want to possibly be featured in The Weekly Grind, make sure to share yours (screenshots, videos, clips) via skate.reel. ⛈️ Sounds of lightning and thunder in the background... 🌩️ 🎵 THIS IS HALLOWEEN, THIS IS HALLOWEEN 🎶 Are you ready to get this song stuck in your head for the rest of the day? BECAUSE I AM! Do you have fang-tastic plans for tonight? If you are dressing up, let us know what you picked! It’s been raining a lot here, so I’ll stay cosy and will be watching horror movies and Halloween cartoons, and of course snacking on some spooky treats. 👻🎃 Let’s catch up on spooktacular news: On Monday, the latest edition of the Laundry List went out, and it lays out the upcoming community fixes that will be released on November 4th. And on Thursday, a Laundry List promo video also got released! The perfect companion for the Grim Reaper… posted here by Busufu And now let’s jump to the highlights, if you dare.. 🌌 A light flickering… a rustling in a bush… a shadow passing too quickly… the wind that sounds like a lamentation… or is it the wind…? Can you picture the scene? If you can’t, wrenstales2212 has created the perfect spot to spend your Halloween night. So come join us at All’s Hallows Eve Park if you’re brave enough! Whether you’re a vampire, a werewolf, a spell binder, or a completely regular sim, there will be plenty of things to do to celebrate the most ghoulish night of the year: compete in a chess tournament, search for the hidden creature in the swamp, search for treasures… and it includes public bathrooms. Could it be any better? 📖 We have a new chapter of The Whittaker Saga brought to us by JesLet40 , 1970s: Two Birthdays and a Funeral. In this new rendition, Cindy celebrates her birthday and turns into a teenager. Steven on his end goes to prom reluctantly, but ends up having a lot of fun there, while Beth is also enjoying the college party - and seems to be enjoying the college life in general. Susan is struggling with her love life, but tries to put her issues aside to celebrate Steven’s birthday. Finally, a death notice comes in unexpectedly, giving Anna the push to change something about her life... 🐍 For The Sims 3 lovers, Cuniculosa has been sharing tiny Halloween builds that are so cute it’s spooky! My favourite one is the most recent, Hesper’s Herps and Sundry: it’s a pet shop that specializes in reptiles as well as common pets. The outside is very inviting for Halloween lovers, with a big balcony, warm lightning and big windows so you can have a little peek inside. Built on two floors, the ground floor includes several reptile tanks and a cash register. At the top floor, sims can enjoy a nice horror book by a warm cosy fire, and they can step outside on the balcony for a bit of fresh air. There are orange and black colours, pumpkins and black cats for the perfect classic Halloween feel. It’s not just a pet shop, it’s an experience! 👻 🗺️ Next up, elliebreton is asking you all how do you decide where to live. There are many worlds in the game now and while it’s great to have plenty of choices, sometimes too many options makes it hard to pick one! Some players have their go-to world, or will try to match the world with their sim personality and pick where their sims would want to be living, and others even have a system based on the date they plan to pick the neighborhood and the house or lot! It’s hard to sum up all the replies, so I encourage you to have a look in the thread directly! I’m a creature of habits myself, so I tend to pick the same worlds: Brindleton Bay, Sulani, Henford on Bagley. I like to visit the other neighborhoods but I never stay there, so it must be time to step out of my comfort zone! 🍂 Alright, we got a spooky park, and a spooky petshop, but what about us introverts who like to spend most of their fall time at home? Thankfully, cozysimslifeyt got us sorted with a bootiful Halloween Family Home. It includes two bedrooms, an office, a kitchen and living room: ideal for a couple and their child! I absolutely love the front porch with all the pumpkins, perfect to invite trick-or-treaters. The house is of course decorated with all the Halloween and spooky decorations. I would love it if those were available in real life, especially that skeleton rug! What would be your favourite? Alright peeps, time to go trick or treating, or dressing up, or staying indoors… whatever you do, make sure to share your spooktacular plans with us. Until next time! 🦇 Dag dag! Welcome back to The Weekly Grind. Let’s get to it! What’s going on? One week into Skate-o-Ween, and the team is working on more fixes. Mid-season Update 0.28.5 dropped on Oct 23, 2025, and we’re hearing your feedback. What have we heard? We’ve heard your feedback regarding Seasonal and Event progression being too low without enough challenges and the rewards tied to the Seasonal and Event task completion not being that significant. We also hear you about skate.Pass and not being able to earn enough SVB for the next season and we’re looking at adjusting the amount of SVB rewarded in the skate.Pass. The team is taking all the feedback and learning from it, working on some tuning for Season 2 that we’ll be sharing in the coming weeks. Beyond Season 1, we’ve also heard you loud and clear regarding the issues impacting gameplay overall - softlock issues, progression issues, connectivity and stability issues, and how the cosmetic and rewards system works in general. It’s crucial that you know we see and hear your feedback. We’ll have more information to share soon on the next steps, but it’s crucial for us to ensure you know that you’re being heard. Free Gift If you didn’t notice, in the skate.Pass images we had an asset that included a white Haru shirt that was not actually available to unlock/earn. We fixed the asset, but wanted to do more. So on Friday, October 31, we’re granting everyone the Lightrunner set that includes the white long-sleeved Haru shirt, the striped baseball cap, and the white high-top shoes. For free, for everyone with skate.Pass Premium. You’ll just have to log in to get them. Skate-o-Ween Weekly Task Progression Fix On Monday, we pushed a fix that allows you to run any of the previously completed challenges again: "Witch's Brew", "Spider Bait", and "Heathen Flip". This update enables you to complete the challenge goals and receive all the Week 1 rewards. Additionally, we're disabling the "Basinator" Challenge due to the objective "Perform a single flip trick and 360 into the Fountain" not consistently tracking. Softlocks/Stuck Progression- ONGOING As shared last week, the team continues to push fixes for softlock issues, but more details are needed if you’re still experiencing a stuck progression issue. If you haven’t yet, make sure to share your details on the Mega Thread as we need to fix these individually for the time being. We appreciate your dedication and sticking with us in Early Access as we work through these issues. Make sure to check our official skate_status account on X to keep up-to-date with news and info as it comes out. Keep that content coming! REMINDER! On October 20th, we launched our first skate. UGC contest where you can design a shirt to be in-game. This is the last week to share your design for it to be considered to come into the game. Check the official rules for details and hit up the #skate-tshirt-contest channel in the official Discord to drop your submission. Check here for details, rules, and the legal stuff. As usual, we wanted to share a few pieces of content that caught our eye. Hello everyone, and welcome to the 9th edition of the EA Forums Online Security Newsletter. It’s October Cybersecurity Awareness Month. We’ll revisit key topics from previous editions to refresh our knowledge and prepare for this month’s optional challenge. Staying secure is essential and should be a priority in every online interaction or purchase. As usual, if you share your experiences or take a quiz, you’ll receive a unique badge on the forums as a token of participation. Now is a good time to introduce this month’s additional, optional challenge. Since October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, let’s promote online security even more: talk about online safety with your family and those most vulnerable, like your grandparents or kids. Exchange experiences with friends and share the tips you use every day. You can use the information in this newsletter or other resources (check the InfoHub). And, most importantly… Stay safe! Cybersecurity Awareness Month Downloading games Download apps and games only from official stores. Check reviews and ratings, and review requested permissions. Keep your operating system and apps updated, use antivirus software, and avoid illegal “cracked” versions, which often carry malware. Keeping your account secure Use strong, unique passwords and a password manager. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), such as Google Authenticator (biometric options are often supported). Watch for phishing: verify senders, avoid suspicious links or attachments, and never share personal information. Secure your email, the gateway to many accounts, by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA), monitoring activity, and using encryption for sensitive messages. Biometrics security Biometrics (fingerprints, facial recognition, voice) and passkeys use on-device cryptography to reduce or replace passwords. They resist phishing, brute-force attacks, and password theft while enabling faster logins. Devices store encrypted templates, not raw fingerprint or face images, helping protect security and privacy even if a device is compromised. Online purchases Buy games and currency from official stores or verified sellers; avoid offers that seem too good to be true. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your accounts and use trusted payment methods (e.g., PayPal, Google Pay) with buyer protection. Keep your system and antivirus up to date. Be wary of social engineering: double-check links, verify senders, and remember that legitimate support will not contact you through unofficial channels. Password creation psychology People often prioritize convenience over security, opting for simple or familiar passwords (such as birthdays, names, or team names), reusing them, or following predictable patterns. To strengthen security, use passphrases with unrelated words, employ mnemonics, store unique and complex passwords in a password manager, and update them periodically. Psychology of phishing Phishing exploits the principles of urgency, authority, curiosity, rewards, and social proof. Counter it by pausing when a message sparks excitement or panic, verifying claims via official channels (not embedded links), checking sender details and branding, and treating unsolicited gifts or windfalls as suspicious. If a message seems to come from a friend but feels off, confirm through a separate, trusted channel. In short: slow down, verify independently, and think before you click. Security vulnerabilities A security vulnerability is a flaw that attackers can exploit to steal data, disrupt services, or gain unauthorized access, distinct from cheating, which manipulates in-game mechanics. If you discover a vulnerability in an EA game or service, report it via the Security Vulnerability Submission form on the EA Security website. Include the product, platform, version, discovery time, impact, reproduction steps, and any supporting evidence. EA evaluates reports using CVSS and a four-tier severity scale (Critical, Important, Moderate, Low), alongside the STRIDE model. Cheating or account issues should be reported via in-game tools or EA account support, not through this form. Sul sul folks! October is already halfway through! It has been getting chillier here, I have put on the stove pretty much everyday lately (to my dog’s delight). How about you, have you been cozying up with all your Halloween blankets or are you still enjoying the last (or early, depending where you live) rays of sunshine? 🦇 Let’s check this week's news first: 🎮 This weekend, make sure to check out all the live streams from TwitchCon San Diego on The Sims Channel! Something strange is going on here… posted here by Zasz_Zerg Now let’s jump into the Highlights! ⛺ First up, RelaxedRealmgame is asking all of you what type of camps you have built with Adventure Awaits, so feel free to share a bit of inspiration with us! Have you opted for the kids summer camp, which seems to be a popular choice? Did you embrace drama by creating a Love Island type of contest? I was in the process of setting up a resort for cat lovers, but since we’re in the middle of Spooky Season, I paused my plans to start a Haunted Mansion resort for all amateurs of strange and paranormal activities. 🏚️ I know that the community is super creative, so make sure to share all your builds or ideas in the thread! 🍼 This week, Sami0623 is going back to the Lianna Luz: 100 Baby Challenge, set in Sulani. But before we get to know Lianna, we have to meet the background and important characters that will play a part in the story. Lianna is the daughter of Dante, a spellcaster and Kalani, a mermaid. Dante was supposed to marry a strong spellcaster from the same elite society they belong to, but he had other plans for himself (and in the end, it seems that he married a mermaid!). We then learn about Kyera’s story, a very strong spellcaster who lacks control over her powers, and wants to find her suitable match. This setting sounds very promising for the story, so let’s keep an eye on this challenge so we don’t miss the next chapters! 👀 👠 Wicked: For Good is less than two months away, so this is the perfect timing to share this fairy recreation of Land of Oz by KarilynMonroe2 . It features the iconic yellow brick road and some of the houses from Munchkin Lands, as well as the Emerald City (if you’d like to spend one short day there), or also the castle of the Wicked Witch of the West. More builds and lots will be added so make sure to head over the rainbow and check out the thread regularly. I can’t wait to see the final result, I just know that it will be so pretty, it might just be... defying gravity 🎶 🏢 This week, PriestessBizarre is sharing a beautiful building with three separate apartments, FourFloor Deco Apartments. It includes a common area on the ground floor with a bar and loungeroom, as well as a swimming pool. The rest of the floors are made for different types of flats, depending on the households that you pick: there is a single-person apartment, another one is made for a couple and the last one is made for two separate sims. Everything looks very modern and clean, and each floor has its own decoration and personality. I love the curved balconies and the style, they give the building a very chic look! Make sure to check out all the neat details and pictures and to download the build on the Gallery if you’re interested! 📸 Thanks to pippagreenhill , we are getting a fresh Selfie thread! We all want to see your sims’ best pictures, please share them! So far, Juliet and Terra have been celebrating Halloween showing off their cool tattoos, while Karmine and Celestrix took the time to take a picture during their beautiful alien wedding celebration, and Polly snatched a selfie in her kitchen to immortalise the moment of her trying to become a chef. If you have taken nice or funny selfies recently, this thread is the perfect place to show them off! And that's another week done folks! I'll be heading off to do a bit of pumpkin carving this weekend, both in real life and in The Sims 4. See you soon! Dag dag! 🎃 Cath372Views21likes14CommentsFriday Highlights - August 1st
Sul Sul my favorite Simmers! Happy Friday everyone! Can you believe it’s August already? This year is absolutely flying by, and we’re now just over the halfway point. Here’s a fun fact to start your weekend- we are now officially closer to the year 2050 than we are to the year 2000 🥴 So now that we’re all having an existential crisis, let’s get on with the highlights! Did you catch all the exciting news from this week? On Tuesday, a new update dropped to address a handful of community reported issues and concerns, be sure to read over the full notes here to see everything that was included! Tuesday also brought us a Simlish music video for FKA Twig’s absolute banger, Perfect Stranger. You can watch the video here and add it to all your playlists! On Wednesday, a steamy new TikTok challenge launched - you’ll need to finish the final pages of the new romantasim story, Foraging for Desire, by playing The Sims. Share your story and gameplay on TikTok with #SimYourFantasy for a chance to be on the story’s front cover, win a 3-day fairycore getaway, and your very own physical copy of the book! You can read up on all the details for this challenge here. Malcolm IV performs for Bella the cow, posted here, by Smellincoffee Ready for this week’s udderly wonderful highlights? Neighborhood Stories can sometimes get a little weird, just like this Whoopsie! that Sim_MRM has recently discovered in their game. While checking their family tree, the infamous Geoffrey Landgraab has been caught red handed canoodling around with a not so secret lover. What will poor Nancy do? Maybe this will finally give her the courage to kick Geoffrey to the curb and take the power company for herself ⚡🏢 So what kind of shenanigans have you seen in your game with Neighborhood Stories? Have you found any other ruined relationships, or maybe some unfortunate accidental deaths? Tell us all the crazy things that have happened in your game! If you’re still not getting quite enough whimsy in your gameplay with fairies, don’t worry, ManicPot8to has you covered with an incredible build, Wildflower Glen. This intricate little village is made up of five unique areas for cozy cottage life, fanciful forest lore, and mysterious magical discoveries all nestled around a scenic and lush river. You’ll find a pastel colored cafe, a witchy apothecary shop, and a homey cottage where you can practice your alchemy 🧙♀️🌿🍄 There’s a few other secrets around this village that I won’t spoil, so be sure to check it out yourself to see what you can find! Up next, we have a world save legacy challenge from GLovely1 called Dumpster Dynasty. This challenge takes place in a remodeled version of Evergreen Harbor as you start with your founding Sim, Lark Meadows. You’ll make a living solely on dumpster diving and yard sales with the end goal of purchasing a junkyard lot to clear out and build your dream home. There are a total of 8 main goals to work towards, each with a minor goal and a special reward. So if you’re wanting to try an eco-friendly version of living off the land, this challenge is just for you! 🚯🗑️ Fall and cozy weather is just around the corner, so let’s settle in with a gameplay story from Addy’s Comfy Corner, written by adwilson. This story follows Addy, an avid collector who dreams of opening her own museum to showcase her extensive collections. This week, Addy is looking to finally complete her frog collection by hunting down the ever elusive death frog. While searching around Ravenwood, she makes some new discoveries and meets some very mysterious folks that lead her on a new quest… So what all will she uncover in this spooky world, and what new collectables will she encounter? Will she ever find out what that strange raccoon in a trench coat wants? Make sure you tune in to find out! 🐸💎 And to finish us off this week, we have one of those most unique gameplay challenges I’ve ever come across, Snob Sim trapped in a mansion (but without a toilet), created by penguinNMPR. This challenge is exactly what it sounds like - you’ll be locking a Sim in a house worth at least $100,000 with no toilets on the lot. You’ll start with no money, and your end goal is to earn enough to purchase the most expensive toilet in the game. But there’s a catch! Your Sim isn’t allowed a full-time job, and can’t leave the lot. You’ll also need to be sure all bills are fully paid, and all existing furniture is in pristine and working condition. If anything catches on fire or breaks, you’ll have to replace that exact item before you can finally purchase your coveted toilet. So if you’re looking for some new slightly unhinged challenges to try, be sure to check this one out, but maybe hire a maid to help clean up first... 🚽💸 And that’s going to wrap us up for the last week of July! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, stay safe, and happy Simming 💚 Till next time! -EA_Solaire327Views25likes12CommentsFriday Highlights - October 10th
