Have you considered the following at all:
Variety in the engagements via a wounding system to make the soldier more human.
I land shots first to the upper body region and and possibly arms, then the enemy should be incapacitated for a certain time and not able to raise the weapon and ADS. Same with hits to lower region and legs should make it hard to stand and or keep balance. Like the effect when getting paralyzed by the stun grenade. The screen effects when you've been downed should really already start when you've been shot to limit vision. The back and forth gunplay is lacking severely and is faceted, since no variety has been built in. Many encounters now are: I shoot at a enemy, his health reaches a ridiculously low number let's say 5% and the proceeds to return fire as if he has 100% and lands the kill without any in-built hindrance in form of shake, or whatever to make it harder for him to land shots.
