TL;DR: Error 1:86001S usually points to a router/NAT issue. If UPnP isn’t working on your network, manually forward the ports below for your platform, restart your gear, and test again.

⚠️ Important: You’ll need access to your router’s admin settings to complete these steps. If you don’t have admin access (e.g., shared housing, campus, office, hotel, mobile hotspot), we won’t be able to assist with port changes.

What does 1:86001S mean?

This error typically indicates your network isn’t letting Battlefield 6 talk to our servers correctly -- most often due to strict NAT, double NAT, or closed ports on your router.

Common symptoms include:

  • Can’t connect or frequently disconnect from online services
  • Party/squad chat works inconsistently
  • NAT Type shows Strict or Moderate (consoles)

Before you start (quick checks)

Try these first—they fix most cases without manual port work:

  1. Power-cycle your modem/router (unplug 30 seconds, plug back in) and your console/PC.
  2. Use a wired (Ethernet) connection if possible.
  3. Disable VPNs/proxies and pause other heavy downloads/streams.
    1. VPNs aren't officially supported, and we can't provide any troubleshooting for network errors that may occur while using one.
  4. Enable UPnP on your router (if available), save, then reboot the router and device. UPnP automatically opens the ports games need.
  5. Avoid double NAT: If you have both a modem/router combo and a separate router, put one into bridge/modem-only mode.

If you still see 1:86001S, continue with manual port forwarding.

Required ports for Battlefield 6

PlayStation 5

  • TCP: 3478–3480
  • UDP: 3074, 3478–3479

Xbox Series X

  • TCP: 3074
  • UDP: 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500

PC

Note: PC port requirements can vary by platform (EA app vs. Steam) and by local setup.

Suggested to forward if needed:
  • TCP: 80, 443, 9000
  • UDP: 53, 9999

Also, ensure that Windows Firewall (or any third-party firewall) allows Battlefield 6, the EA app/Steam, and anti-cheat components.

🔎 Tip: On Windows, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Windows Security → Firewall & network protection → Allow an app through firewall and confirm Battlefield 6 and your launcher are allowed on Private (and, if needed, Public) networks.

How to set up port forwarding (generic steps)

Routers vary, but the flow is generally the same:

  1. Find your router’s login page.
    • Usually http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 (check the label on the router or your ISP’s manual).
  2. Log in to the router admin.
    • You’ll need the username/password (often on a sticker). If you don’t have it, check with whoever manages the network or your ISP.
  3. Give your console/PC a fixed address.
    • Find DHCP Reservation/Static Lease and reserve an IP for your device (e.g., 192.168.1.50). This prevents the IP from changing later.
  4. Open the Port Forwarding page.
    • This may be called Port Forwarding, NAT, Virtual Server, or Port Mapping.
  5. Create rules per the tables above.
    • For each port or range, set Protocol (TCP/UDP), the External and Internal port(s), and your device’s IP address.
    • Save after adding each block.
  6. Apply & reboot.
    • Reboot the router and your console/PC.
  7. Test your connection in-game.
    • On consoles, also check NAT Type in network settings.

🧰 Advanced: If your router supports UPnP, try leaving it enabled while also forwarding only the ports you need. Avoid using DMZ for your device except as a short diagnostic test -- it exposes your device and isn’t recommended long‑term.

Console-specific tips

PlayStation 5

  • Settings → Network → Connection Status to view NAT Type.
  • If NAT remains set to Strict/Moderate, confirm that UPnP is enabled and the port entries match your PS5’s reserved IP.

Xbox Series X

  • Settings → General → Network settings → Test NAT type and Test multiplayer connection.
  • If you see Double NAT detected, put your modem/router combo into Bridge Mode or connect your console to only one router.

PC-specific tips

  • Temporarily disable third‑party security suites to test (re‑enable afterward). Make sure Battlefield 6/EA app/Steam are allowed.
  • If you’re using multiple network adapters (Wi‑Fi + Ethernet, VPNs, virtual adapters), disable the extras while testing.
  • In Windows Defender Firewall → Advanced settings, you can add Inbound and Outbound rules for the exact ports above (TCP/UDP).

🚫 We don’t recommend third‑party firewall “helper” tools here.

Common blockers & how to spot them

  • Double NAT: Two routers in a row (ISP modem/router + your router). Fix by bridging one device.
  • Carrier‑grade NAT (CGNAT): Common on 4G/5G or some ISPs; port forwarding won’t work. Ask your ISP for a public IPv4 or game-friendly profile.
  • Guest/Enterprise networks: Hotels, campuses, or offices often block ports; you’ll need the network administrator’s help.
  • Wrong device IP: If your console/PC's IP address has changed, forwarded ports may now point to the incorrect device. Use DHCP reservation/static IP to resolve this issue.

Security note

Only open the ports listed for your platform and device. Remove test rules you no longer need, keep your router’s firmware up to date, and avoid DMZ long‑term.

See you on the Battlefield!
