Re: Origin Unable to Locate Steam Games

@valtrex28 Do you get the message, when trying to launch from Steam or Origin?

  • The game does not appear to be installed. Please install it or try relaunching the game. This happens with Dead Space 1/2/3, Titanfall 2, Mass Effect.

    Hey @valtrex28

Apologies I did not see your reply, To confirm are you getting this error when launching from the Origin or Steam client? To check are the games installed on a separate drive from the client, and are you allowing them through any security running on the device?

  • I'm getting the error when I launch via Steam. The games are on the same drive as both clients and they are allowed through my systems security.

    Hi @valtrex28,

Could you give us some more information on how you installed the games through Steam and where you purchased the games?

Once you’ve linked your accounts, install your first EA game through Steam:

    1. Sign in to Steam.
    2. Go to your Library.
    3. Select the game.
    4. Click Install.
    5. Click Next on the pop-up window to install the game.

You can launch the game as you would any other Steam game by clicking the title and then Play

Also make sure that you're not running both Origin and the EA app at the same time. Close them both, including the background processes, open only Origin (make sure that you're logged in with the EA account linked to your Steam account) and try launching the game through Steam.

Please try it again and if the issue persists, then provide a screenshot of the error message.

  • All of the games were installed via Steam and purchased via Steam. When I launch them though, the Origin client pops up as normal and the game immediately shuts down. When I bring Origin up it has an error that the game is not installed and to install it via Steam (which it already is).

  • Is there no way to just point Origin at the installation folder? I made sure that Origin has the correct library selected, it just doesn't detect any game installed via Steam.

    There is a way @valtrex28.

In Origin you can right-click on the game and then choose "Locate Game". That should find it in Origin.

  • Just checked, the option isn't there for games purchased via Steam only for games purchased via Origin.

Thank you for letting me know @valtrex28.

In that case, could you uninstall the game through the Windows settings, make sure that Origin and Steam are launched as an administrator and then reinstall the game?

  • Annnnnnnnnnnnd that did it. I also changed my installation library in Origin to my Steam library while I waited for the download. Thanks!

  • Still a bit odd though. I closed the game to fix an audio issue, went to replay it and had to close Origin and reopen it as an admin again to get the game to run, but at least it does run now.

In that case we can try to make Origin always open as an administrator:

    1. Hold the Windows button on your keyboard and press E
    2. Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin
    3. Right click on the Origin application
    4. Choose Properties
    5. Go to the Compatibility tab
    6. Place a checkmark at the Run As Administrator box
    7. Press Apply
