Re: SimCity won't launch on new PC - Windows 10

Something to try

uninstall origin through start - programs - Origin - Uninstall Origin

Then manually delete the origin folders from:

C:\Users\[name]\Appdata\Local

C:\Users\[name]\Local\Roaming

c:\ProgramData\

c:\Program Files\

Then re-download and reinstalling origin reinstall the game through there

You may need to enable the option to view hidden files and folders to view the Appdata folder. To to this in My computer go to view - options. The tab view and enable Show hidden files, folders and drives.

  • Unfortunately that did not work either. Still having the launch issue.

EDIT: I updated and restarted my laptop and it worked!!  Thank you!

  • Ok, so it looks like the game only worked once ☚ī¸ I went to play again today and I back to where I was with it not launching. I retraced the uninstall steps again, but this time it doesn't seem to work.

    I having the same issue!

    I am on Windows 7 64bit, Nvidia GTX 1080 and 16gb Ram.

I start the Game and the SimCity Logo appears for 3 seconds and after that nothing happens!.

Tried to repair the game, nothing changed, tried updating, nothing happend.

I dont think that re-download/install will help.

Last time i was able to play was 2016.

    Any ideas?

ok, had the same issue this is how i fixed it. In origin click on sim city then click on the gear (settings) then click on game properties and uncheck "enable origin in game for sim city" ... that worked for me

I would to open this issue again. I have the same problem, and nothing works. I tried to reinstall everything, set compatibility, disable "Origin in game", but nothing. Still have SimCity icon in panel, but appears. Usually after few minutes it says SimCity crashed. Any ideas?

  • having the same issue as well today....nothing i have found on forums has helped

  • I went around and around with EA support for weeks and finally gave up. They just told me it was some sort of compatibility issue and I wouldn't be able to play.

If you're on a PC, this is usually something blocking the exe from reaching the Internet.

    1. Make sure your firewall and antivirus are not blocking SimCity.exe, and that it is added to the exception lists. I know when mine updates, it occasionally likes to change settings for no good reason. If you have BitDefender installed, disable it.
    2. If you have any mods installed, remove them
    3. Make sure your graphics drivers are updated to the most recent version. If you have the sound program Nahimic 2 from MSI installed, disable or uninstall it.
    4. Set the desktop icons to run SimCity.exe and Origin.exe as administrator
    5. In Origin, right-click SimCity icon, Game Properties, check the box that says "Disable Origin In-game"
    6. Set the SimCity desktop icon to run in Windows 7 or 8 compatibility mode.

If none of these work, try a clean boot and attempt to launch SimCity. If it launches, you'll have some detective work to do, enable one startup program at a time, reboot, try SimCity, until you find the program that is blocking it.

Thank you of so very much....

Have been banging my head against the wall with this for some time now.

Finally solved.... a sound app who would have thought of that?

the Nahimic 2 sound app from msi was the culprit.

    Thank You once again.

Took a TON of troubleshooting to find out about the Nahimic 2 program - glad it helped you! (This thread is where we discovered the problem - 4 months!)

The Nahimic 2 application was the problem for me as well. Thank you so much! I can finally play the game now.
