Re: Unable to launch Battlefield Bad Company 2

Hi lokilaugh55,

since you updated the drivers and have not played for a while it could be the games settings are colliding. You

could try to remove settings.ini (make backup first or rename) from "your Documents"\BFBC2

When you start the game it should create a new settings.ini

You will need to reconfigure your settings but if it works at least you can start it up again.

  • InSmithereens,

    Unfortunately that didn't work either.  Now I get a white screen that drops me back to the desktop. 😕mileyfrustrated:

    Ok, still a little change is there.

    I searched for some other things to try as it could aslo be related to Directx or Visual c++

    1.

    Forcing directx 9.
    If you set back the settings.ini or a news one was created open it and find

    DxVersion=auto

    change to

    DxVersion=9

    and save

    try to run the game

    2.

    uninstall microsoft visual c++ and then then reinstall them.
    They can be downloaded from the microsoft site. There are multiple versions, start installing
    2005 (32+64 bits) and go up to 2012

    I hope it is of help to you.

  • Tried the DX9 solution.  No joy.  Not sure I want to uninstall C++ as there is quite a bit to delete and not sure what effects this might have on other programs.

    It was working a couple of months ago although  I've had trouble with the game ever since I installed it. I checked to see if there are any installs relating to C++ recently since that might be the issue.  Last MS update didn't contain any so I'm pretty sure that's not the issue since the game worked before.  I tend to think it might have something to do with updated Nvidia drivers.  Anyway your suggestions are appreciated.😕mileyhappy:  If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

    Hi,

    Indeed it could also be the new Nvidia drivers. After some reading/searching the net I encountered more problems

    that showed up after installing newer Nvidia drivers. To test it you could go back a version.

    Another thing, that might seem odd, is to check punkbuster. Strange indeed, but In my case it prevented MOH from
    from running and I have seen punkbuster named as the source of the problem for BFBC2 too.

    Now that I think of it, I tried updating punkbuster after trying to reinstall vc++.

    you can download pbsetup here: http://www.evenbalance.com/?page=pbsetup.php

    After downloading, upzip the file and run the program. Add BFBC2 as game and check for updates.

    This goes pretty fast so this can be done in 1-2 minutes.

    Sometimes it's just trial and error when it comes to computers.

  • I tried the punkbuster solution too before I posted here.  I tried it again just now and everything checks out. I hear you about the trial and error thing.  Hopefully they can figure out what's going on.
