As far as I know weapon mastery dogtags should display the number of kills since one of the recent patches. Isn't it present? For me it looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/kpDrnDq.png

Yes, it shows as i am choosing the tags but when i go to my soldier overview it doesnt show the kills. When you kill or get killed, should the amount of kills show up?
I'll have a look when I enter the game, as to be honest I haven't really paid attention to it in game (and very few people have weapon mastery tags equipped now). Give me ~30 minutes.
i know right? same here i have not really thought much of it. it would give a cooler reason to wear a mastery dog tag if it showed your kills with that weapon everytime you kill someone. Thanks alot spitfire!
Still searching. Finding anyone with equipped mastery tag is a borderline miracle these days...

So, I asked people and apparently these don't show (which is a shame). I have no clue if it will be changed.

Well, you can make a Battlelog thread, that's one. If you can access CTE, you may want to try there, there is a better chance that someone from the crew will see it. Also, I can try to push this suggestion through bftracker, but I have no idea if it will work. None at all. You may also PM one of the Community Managers of AHQ for further instruction regarding this, as they surely will know better than me.
