Re: Interesting History Behind BF1 Weapon Skin Names?
I found two more skin names that refer to Battlefield 1's map locations / flags.
Capello skin for Cei-Rigotti https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Caporetto#Capello_Grove Caporetto is a map featured in the Battlefield 1: Apocalypse expansion. Conquest Assault flags: -Capello Grove, ... Capello Grove is an artillery firebase, built in two defensive lines, occupying the riverside farmland of the map's northernmost point. The fortifications here are more robust than anywhere else on the map, featuring wide, timber-lined trenches topped with barbed wire entanglements and scrap wood dug in as makeshift barricades. The forward line, parallel to the viaduct and rail line, is outside the capture zone but offers strong overwatch positions against those approaching from the high ground to the south, and contains an array of stationary weapons including heavy artillery. The rear line is more expansive, accommodating more heavy guns and piles of spent shell casings, and represents the final Italian stronghold west of the river. Both of these defensive lines are vulnerable to flanking by troops skirting the water's edge to the northeast. Trivia. Similarly to the objectives on River Somme, certain flags have indirect references about the Battle of Caporetto: Flag E (Capello Grove) refers to Luigi Capello, the Italian general who commanded (among others) the troops active along the Isonzo front.
Moltke skin for MG15 n.A. https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Rupture#Moltke_Trench Rupture is a map featured in the Battlefield 1: They Shall Not Pass expansion. Domination objectives: -Moltke Trench, ... Moltke Trench: The artillery pit, located on the southeast edge of the boundaries. The capture zone only concerns the southern position, with the similar fortification directly adjacent left outside the radius.
After the release of the BF1 game, at the end of October 2016, Dice sent such Care packages to Battlefield 1 Youtubers. Contents of the package: -WW1 newspaper (August 5 1914, United Kingdom declaration of war upon Germany), -letter from home to the soldier, -English tea, -chocolate, -tobacco / cigarette (reference to the Lucifer skin for M1911, Lucifer - used to refer to a match and was taken from a popular match brand in those times), ... We can also see a ribbon in Jackfrags's video (maybe future in-game info?, ribbons were first introduced in the Community Test Environment and were formally introduced to the base game on February 14th, 2017 in the Winter Update.)

I found an interesting historical reference in Jackfrags unboxing video from 2016.
Sedd El Bahr is a Codex Entry featured in Battlefield 1. It is unlocked by killing ten enemies with melee attacks in the chapter Be Safe in the singleplayer mission The Runner. https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Sedd_El_Bahr_(Codex_Entry) House-to-house fighting in Gallipoli Stories tell about the Irish troops from the Dublin and Munster Fusiliers who in those first hours of the Gallipoli campaign were ordered to assault the castle and the village of Sedd el Bahr. After 24 hours of house-to-house fighting these heroic troops had made themselves masters of the village.
Royal Munster Fusiliers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Munster_Fusiliers The Royal Munster Fusiliers was a line infantry regiment of the British Army from 1881 to 1922. One of eight Irish regiments raised largely in Ireland, it had its home depot in Tralee and served as the county regiment for Cork, Clare, Limerick and Kerry. The regiment fought with distinction throughout the Great War and won three Victoria Crosses by the conflict's conclusion in 1918. Following establishment of the independent Irish Free State in 1922, the five regiments that had their traditional recruiting grounds in the counties of the new state were disbanded and the Royal Munster Fusiliers ceased to be as a regiment on 31 July 1922. 1915: Gallipoli and the Second Battle of Ypres. On 26 April they took fort Sedd-el-Bahr overlooking the bay, charging and taking the village behind and held off several Turkish counterattacks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedd_el_BahrSedd el Bahr (Turkish: Seddülbahir, Ottoman Turkish: سد البحر, meaning "Walls of the Sea") is a village in the Eceabat District, Çanakkale Province, Turkey. It is located at Cape Helles on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey. The village lies east of the cape, on the shore of the Dardanelles. It was the site of V Beach, the landing zone for two Irish battalions, including one from the SS River Clyde, on 25 April 1915 during the Gallipoli Campaign in World War I.
@HUN_gattaca_lg If you're still updating I found General Liu's skin 'The Yang' In traditional Chinese, the translation of this skin is Yang (Simplified Chinese:'阳'.traditional Chinese:'陽') It means yin and yang for chinese I went to verify other languages (Japanese) Because there are some translation issues with traditional Chinese In Japanese, this skin is translated as Yang (the same as what you posted) What translation do you think this skin is intended to convey? If it's the yang in the yin and yang, it's white and similar to the appearance of the gun Of course, I think both translations are very cool!
Unfortunately, even understanding the English language is a problem for me (I'm not a language genius). But i think you are right.
Yin and yang (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yin_and_yang) Modern usage: Yin is the black side, and yang is the white side. The relationship between yin and yang is often described in terms of sunlight playing over a mountain and a valley. Yin (literally the 'shady place' or 'north slope') is the dark area occluded by the mountain's bulk, while yang (literally the "sunny place' or "south slope") is the brightly lit portion.
my video, The Yang skin (it's really white) for General Liu Rifle and Black and White skin for Attack Plane:
While reading the BF1 codex entries today I realized that I hit the Frantz skin. It's tricky because the Frantz skin for M1907 SL is referenced in the Elite M1909 Benet Mercie Codex Entry.
Flying a Voisin Type 3 biplane (reference to the M1907 SL's Voisin skin), they fired on a German Aviatik with a Hotchkiss machine gun. It was being piloted by Sergeant Wilhelm Schlichting with Lieutenant Fritz von Zangen as his observer. They were engaged in a reconnaisance mission close to Jonchéry on Vesle. After they exhausted the ammunition for the machine gun, they found themselves being fired upon by the German observer with his rifle. Sergeant Quénault responded with his own rifle and one of the shots hit the pilot. The plane, out of control, crashed to the earth and was destroyed. This event marked the first confirmed air victory of the First World War, and indeed in History at the same time. There had been occasional exchanges of shots between the pilots of planes during the first weeks of the conflict, but Frantz and Quénault are credited with being the first aviators to shoot down an enemy plane.
The Elite M1907 SL is a Codex Entry featured in Battlefield 1. https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Elite_M1907_SL_(Codex_Entry) Early in the war, before machine guns were mounted to aircraft, airmen would bring self-loading rifles into planes, balloons and airships, and the M1907 and its sibling were some of the most numerous in this role. Already when the war broke out in 1914, the French authorities requisitioned existing self-loading rifles from gun manufacturers, including M1907's and issued these to French aircraft from August. The need for semi-automatic rifles grew, and between 1915 and 1918, France purchased 3,300 M1907's from the US manufacturer, and a few hundred M1910's - which is the rifle the famous pilot Roland Garros is said to have carried. The British and Russian Empires also purchased a few hundred M1907's and M1910's early in the war, the British issuing them to the Royal Flying Corps. The M1907 rifles intended for aircraft were fitted with extended 15- or 20-round magazines and a casing collector bag.
The Elite M1909 Benet Mercie is a Codex Entry featured in Battlefield 1. https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Elite_M1909_Benet_Mercie_(Codex_Entry) The M1909 would however continue to be used in armored cars, airships and British and French tanks. The Belgians had equipped units of bicycle cavalry with the M1909, which were used with devastating effect against the German cavalry in August 1914. It was also deployed as an airplane weapon, and on 5 October 1914 the M1909 was used by French airmen Frantz and Quenault to score the first aerial combat victory in history.
EXCERPT By July 1918 the German army had total control of the Soissons-Château-Thierry (reference to the M1897 Shotgun's Château-Thierry skin) roads. These were vital lifelines for the German soldiers based in the Marne salient (reference to the Model 10-A's The Rock of the Marne skin). Fearing an offensive in this region, the French planned to force the Germans out of this area. They would make use of one this war's most brilliant new weapons: tanks.
SOISSONS - FRENCH REPUBLIC - INTRODUCTION French Soldier 1: (in French) As we ate, we saw Schneiders, St Chamonds (half reference to the Assault Tank's Metallic Chamond super-rare skin? 🙂 ) and FT tanks rolling up the hill. French Soldier 5: (in French) They say that General Foch (reference to the M1909 Benét-Mercié's The Foch skin) has promised us peace in August. I say it is not in the least likely to come about, but I admire his determination. We soldiers talk of war lasting two years more.
SOISSONS - FRENCH REPUBLIC - BRIEFING - EAST OF SOISSONS 1918 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Soissons_(1918) https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Soissons French Officer: Commander Foch (reference to the M1909 Benét-Mercié's The Foch skin) has given us the go. Our tanks will move swiftly across these fields to secure the German defenses in Chaudun (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaudun Chaudun Village objective in BF1), then continue up Soissons road to take the Chateau de Pernant ( https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Pernant Pernant Chateau objective in BF1 ). Once secured we will quickly move on to this airfield on the road to the ammo depot by Vierzy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vierzy Vierzy Depot objective in BF1). The railroad connects to Soissons and will allow us to push the Germans back over the Aisne river (next Rupture map's location is the Aisne River, France).
SOISSONS - GERMAN EMPIRE - SECOND BATTALION DEFEATED German Officer: Victory is again ours! And though they are weak now, they will come one last time! Hold these defenses men! For the Kaiser (reference to the Gewehr 98's The Kaiser skin)!
INTERMISSION Narrator/Announcer: After the Germans lost Soissons, they retreated back to where they had launched the great Spring Offensive of 1918 (reference to the MP18's The Kaiserschlacht skin), at the abandoned battlefields by the Aisne-Vesle rivers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesle). The French were now in the ascendancy, the summer was coming to an end, and so was the war.
RUPTURE - FRENCH REPUBLIC - BRIEFING - FISMES 1918 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_campaigns_in_World_War_I Aisne-Marne, 18 July – 6 August 1918 https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Rupture French Officer: The Germans have dug into their old defensive positions on the trench line at Hill 60 (Côte 60 Trenches objective in BF1) near Bazoches (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bazoches-sur-Vesles Bazoches Station objective in BF1). We need to secure them before we can cross the Aisne river and attack their new trenches on the Notre Dame Ridge Line (Notre Dame Ridge objective in BF1). After this we must launch an offensive along the railway track to secure Fismes (reference to the Model 1900's Fismes skin). This will force the Germans to retreat out of this region once and for all. Make no mistake, this is the end for them.
RUPTURE - GERMAN EMPIRE - FIRST BATTALION DEFEATED German Officer: A well-deserved victory soldiers! These poilu (reference to the Lebel Model 1886's Le Poilu skin) are no match for our elite forces. Now stand strong! For they will come again!
It is possible that the Archduke skin for Hellriegel 1915 is also tricky and my version is not the correct, complete one. my version, The Archduke skin for Hellriegel 1915 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archduke_Franz_Ferdinand_of_Austria): Archduke FranzFerdinand Carl Ludwig Joseph Maria of Austria (18 December 1863 – 28 June 1914) was the heir presumptive to the throne of Austria-Hungary. His assassination in Sarajevo was the most immediate cause of World War I.
The following historical fact can be read on the loading screen, which confirms my version: Too young to be sentenced to death, the man who assassinated Franz Ferdinand was ineligible for the death penalty. Gavrilo Princip sat out most of the war while imprisoned. He died of tubercolosis in 1918. my screenshot:
Here is the new Archduke reference BRUSILOV KEEP - AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE - SECOND BATTALION DEFEATED transcript Austro-Hungarian Officer: Kolomea remains ours! By order of the emperor and supreme commander Archduke Friedrich (reference to Hellriegel 1915's The Archduke skin), I address to you my felicitations and congratulations on your exemplary conduct. Now, prepare to defend once more!
my modified version, The Archduke skin for Hellriegel 1915: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archduke_Friedrich,_Duke_of_TeschenArchduke Friedrich, Duke of Teschen (Friedrich Maria Albrecht Wilhelm Karl; 4 June 1856 – 30 December 1936) was a member of the House of Habsburg (reference to Repetierpistole M1912's The Habsburg skin) and the supreme commander of the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I. Commander-in-chief of the Austrian Landwehr (militia) and army inspector, he became, after the murder of the heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, inspector-general of the Austro-Hungarian Army. On 11 July 1914 Friedrich was appointed supreme commander of the Austro-Hungarian Army by Emperor Franz Joseph I (reference to the Frommer Stop pistol's The Emperor skin). He thought it his duty to accept this heavy responsibility, but, modestly underestimating his own powers, left the actual exercise of the command to his chief-of-staff, Franz Graf Conrad von Hötzendorf (reference to the Repetierpistole M1912's Hötzendorf skin). In the performance of ceremonial duties, and as mediator for the settlement of the conflicting demands of the military, civil and allied elements, his services were undeniable. He was promoted to the rank of Generalfeldmarschall on 8 December 1914. In February 1917 Emperor Charles (reference to the Frommer Stop pistol's The Emperor skin) himself took over the supreme command; the Archduke, although the Emperor's representative, no longer appeared in the foreground.
the additional skin references in this "Brusilov Offensive operation" transcript EXCERPT In 1916 the Eastern Front is locked in a stalemate. After several failed and expensive campaigns, the Russians were unwilling to attack, while the Austro-Hungarians were content to hold the line. Germany battled the Allies in France and Belgium, but the Allies needed to attack the Central Powers on both fronts. So the under-resourced Russian Army was pressed to find new methods to break down the superior Hapsburg forces (Habsburg, with 'b', "The name of the dynasty is sometimes (mis)spelled in English publications as Hapsburg?" and reference to Repetierpistole M1912's The Habsburg skin) that had long resisted them.
GALICIA - RUSSIAN EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION Russian Soldier 1: (in Russian) We are digging our trenches far out into no-man's land, some just 70 meters from their defenses. General Brusilov (reference to the Model 8 Autoloading's Brusilov skin) has told us that surprise is more deadly than the gun.
https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Galicia GALICIA - RUSSIAN EMPIRE - BRIEFING - GALICIA 1916 (reference to the Gewehr M.95's Galicia skin) Russian Officer: Soldiers! Orders from General Brusilov. Four objectives. First, the Galicia Fields must be taken. Following that success, we will drive towards the windmills and secure the Verehia Crossing (The Verehia River is a tributary of the Siret River in Romania and Verehia River is a BF1 objective). From here, we'll move across No Man's Land and meet their trenches head-on. Finally, we must capture Melnik Farm (Melnik Farm is a BF1 objective). It is time to make this valley Russian land once again. Be bold, and victory will be ours!
GALICIA - AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE - SECOND BATTALION DEFEATED Austro-Hungarian Officer: We are victors here. As in Tannenberg ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tannenberg and reference to the Madsen MG's Tannenberg skin), the Russians have been proven weak and inferior. They will come once more. When they do, they will be defeated.
INTERMISSION Narrator/Announcer: With precise artillery attacks and methodical use of shock troops, the Brusilov Offensive managed to breach many sections of the Eastern Front. To avoid a total collapse of its armies and so the empire, it was vital for the Austro-Hungarians to hold up the Russian advance until German troops arrive from the west. Kolomea (location of the next map, Brusilov Keep) was to be where one of these decisive battles would take place.
https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Brusilov_Keep BRUSILOV KEEP - RUSSIAN EMPIRE - BRIEFING - BRUSILOV KEEP 1916 Russian Officer: Comrades! The Habsburg forces are taking up positions in Kolomea. To capture it, we must first secure the Eastern Line here. Then we move on to take the heavily defended Samara River (The Samara is a river in Ukraine, a left tributary of the Dnieper and Samara River is a BF1 objective). Once these areas are open to us, we must move through the town and attack the Chekhova Church (Chekhova Ruins is a BF1 objective). Our last assault will be to drive the enemy from the Kolomea Supply Line. Victory here will surely be the end of their entire army. Let us not fail. For the Tsar!
BRUSILOV KEEP - AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION Austro-Hungarian Soldier 2: (in German) We marched for twelve miles. All the while we thought of fighting the Russians again. It seemed like torture. General Hotzendorf (reference to the Repetierpistole M1912's Hötzendorf skin) cannot expect us to go on.
BRUSILOV KEEP - AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE - DEFEAT Austro-Hungarian Officer: Soldiers, we have lost this battle, and I think, this war. We are on the verge of a military and national catastrophe. May the emperor (reference to the Frommer Stop pistol's The Emperor skin) save us.
CONCLUSION - RUSSIAN EMPIRE VICTORY Narrator/Announcer: The 1916 Brusilov Offensive proved to be the worst crisis of World War I for Austria-Hungary, and the Triple Entente's (reference to the Fighter's La Triple-Entente skin) greatest victory. But it came at a tremendous loss of life for both sides. And without the promised support of Russia's other armies, much of the territory gained by Brusilov was lost to the Germans arriving from the west. It is a sad irony that in the end, it was a political collapse in Russia, not a military defeat, that would decide the outcome of this region's war.
Lilly skin for M1917 MG (???, triple question mark)
I recently read an interesting article about the first Hungarian female pilot. Although I don't believe that there is a connection between the "Lilly" skin and Lilly Steinschneider.
Lilly skin for M1917 MG: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_aviation Women in aviation. Women pilots were also formerly called "aviatrices" (singular "aviatrix"). The first woman passenger in an airplane was Mlle P. Van Pottelsberghe de la Poterie who flew with Henri Farman (reference to the Model 8 Autoloading's Farman skin) on several short flights at an airshow in Ghent, Belgium between May and June 1908. Lilly Steinschneider became the first female pilot in the Austro-Hungarian Empire on August 15, 1912.https://www.europeana.eu/en/blog/lilly-steinschneider-hungarys-first-female-pilotLilly Steinschneider, Hungary's first female pilot. Lilly Steinschneider was born in Budapest in 1891, in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. To learn to fly she travelled to Wiener Neustadt, where the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy operated a famous pilot school. Lilly learned to fly on an Etrich Taube monoplane designed by Igo Etrich Austrian aircraft developer and flight pioneer. She took her pilot exam in August 1912. Her first public flight was in October 1912 in the Hungarian town Nagyvárad (today in Romania). She also participated in the International Flying Week in Aspern in 1913. Among the 24 aviators there were only two women, Lilly and Jeanne Pallier from France. During this contest she was forced to make an emergency landing due to a motor failure. The plane crashed but she escaped the accident unscathed. On the final day of the Flying Week, the French acrobat pilots Maurice Chevillard and Roland Garros made an aerobatic show. Chevillard flew with Lilly on board. Lilly’s dream to fly in front of an audience in her hometown Budapest came true in 1913. The Hungarian Aero Club organised the 'Aviation Day of Saint Stephen (reference to the Gasser M1870 Revolver's St Stephan skin)' on August 20 . This exceeded her expectations: she completed the required 2500-metre lap in 1 minute 27 secs and, with this, she won the speed contest. The outbreak of World War I ended civilian aviation, as well as Lilly’s short but all-the-more-valuable pilot career (1912-1914). Since Lilly dreaded the thought of being away from her beloved husband, she followed him to the Eastern front, where she served as a nurse and cared for typhoid patients.

On screen, Thunderball was released in 1965 as the fourth film in the Eon Productions series, with Sean Connery as James Bond. https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/ThunderballThe following weapons were used in the film Thunderball: -Browning Auto-5. This is what i found today Iron, Steel and Oil - The Fight For Resources I THE GREAT WAR Week 18 by The Great War channel (Indiana Neidell) Valentine Fleming, MP and father of James Bond creator Ian Fleming, wrote "It's going to be a long war, in spite of the fact that on both sides every single man wants it stopped at once".
My new modified version for the Thunderball skin: Thunderball skin for 12G Automatic: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine_FlemingMajor Valentine Fleming (17 February 1882 – 20 May 1917) was a British Conservative Member of Parliament who was killed in the First World War. He was the father of authors Peter Fleming and Ian Fleming, the latter of whom created the James Bond character.
EXCERPT The Meuse-Argonne Offensive (reference to the M1897 Shotgun's Meuse skin and reference to 12G Automatic's Argonne skin) in 1918 engaged almost 1.2 million American soldiers in their baptism of fire. Pitted against the German Empire who had fortified their defenses in depth along the entire Hindenburg Line (reference to the MP 18's Siegfriedstellung skin). French tanks enabled breakthroughs but soon the Americans would find themselves in trouble in the forest of Argonne.
INTRODUCTION Narrator/Announcer: The US Army's attack along the river Meuse would be the first time most of these so called "Doughboys" (reference to BAR M1918's The Doughboy skin) had witnessed real combat. Though this assault came as a surprise to the Central Powers, the German Army was an experienced, elite force, ready for anything.
BALLROOM BLITZ - UNITED STATES - BRIEFING - WEST OF VARENNES 1918 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varennes-en-Argonne) American Officer: General Pershing (reference to the M1917 MG's Black Jack skin) has ordered an attack along the Meuse River. First, we must secure Shrapnel Corner, this fortified trench line here. Then we move into their rear, take and hold this chateau. Following this assault, we will continue our push towards this railway hub and capture it quickly. This will clear the way into the Argonne Forest.
BALLROOM BLITZ - UNITED STATES - FIRST BATTALION LOST American Officer: We've been defeated boys, but remember the Zimmerman Telegram (fact on BF1's loading screen: "The German Zimmermann Telegram was intended to draw Mexico into a war against the USA in 1917."). We are fighting not only for the freedom of Europe, but to defend your mothers, wives and sisters back home. Lets go at them again.
BALLROOM BLITZ - GERMAN EMPIRE - BRIEFING German Officer: General von Gallwitz (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_von_Gallwitz, maybe reference to C-93 Pistol's The General skin? ) has ordered us to stand our ground under our first trench line at Shrapnel Corner. If the Americans are too great in numbers, we will fall back to this chateau and fight them there. Our third defensive line is back here by this Railway Hub. Remember, we are strong on the defense, in depth. Let them come.
BALLROOM BLITZ - GERMAN EMPIRE - DEFEAT German Officer: We lost this battle to these unpredictable Americans. First the Friedenstorm (sic, the Kaiserschlacht's last German attack: Marneschutz-Reims/Friedensturm, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_spring_offensive#Last_German_attack_(Marneschutz-Reims/Friedensturm) ), now here beside the Meuse River, but we few, we live to fight again. In the Argonne Forest, we shall never be broken.
ARGONNE FOREST - UNITED STATES - BRIEFING - SOUTH OF APREMONT 1918 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apremont,_Ardennes) American Officer: The Germans occupy several strongholds within the Argonne Forest. Our priority is to take the Ritz Bunker here. Once this position is secure, we must attack and hold the bridge at Hellfire Junction (reference to the M1917 Enfield's Hellfire Junction skin and Hellfire Junction Bridge is a BF1 objective). From here, we launch our attack on their lines and take control of these Abbey Ruins (Abbey Ruin is a BF1 objective). Remember, the Germans have been strengthening these fortifications for years, so this won't be easy.
ARGONNE FOREST - UNITED STATES - THIRD BATTALION LOST (DEFEAT) American Officer: We lost boys, we're finished here. But don't let that shame burden up inside, you fought with the Spirit of Liberty (reference to the Chauchat's Le Flambeau skin), for democracy and President Wilson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodrow_Wilson) salutes you. God help us.
ARGONNE FOREST - GERMAN EMPIRE - FIRST BATTALION DEFEATED German Officer: We have won good soldiers, but those Americans, they are full blooded bulldogs (reference to M1903's The Devil Dog skin). They will come again and try to finish us. Make them pay for their recklessness.
EXCERPT For centuries, the city of Verdun (reference to the M1909 Benét-Mercié's Verdun skin) had been a symbol of French strength. However, in 1916, the defenses around the city were neglected in this quiet sector. But then at dawn on February 21st a sudden infernal barrage of 1 million shells hammered Verdun turning it into the Devil's Anvil (historical fact on BF1 loading screen: "The opening artillery barrage on Verdun was the largest mankind had ever seen at that time.").
VERDUN HEIGHTS - GERMAN EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION German Soldier: (in German) We have been preparing for a long battle, troops and supplies arriving by train from all over Europe (historical facton on BF1 loading screen: "In preparation to attack Verdun Falkenhayn's men spent seven weeks constructing new railway lines, assembling heavy concrete bunkers to house troops, and stockpiling more than 1200 artillery pieces"). We are edging forward, sleeper by sleeper, rail by rail. These are our scalpels cutting into the heart of France. We will open this country up and leave her to bleed. They have given this offensive a codename: Gerricht: Judgement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Verdun#First_phase,_21_February_%E2%80%93_1_March historical fact on BF1 loading screen: "Chief of the German General Staff Falkenhayn named the plans to attack Verdun 'Unternehmen Gericht' - Operation Judgement."). I know that this will be the battle to settle this terrible war.
VERDUN HEIGHTS - GERMAN EMPIRE - BRIEFING - SAMOGNEUX 1916 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samogneux the location of Verdun Heights map is Samogneux) German Officer: Falkenhayn (reference to the Selbstlader 1906's Falkenhayn skin) has guaranteed our artillery will continue to fire on the Verdun fortresses, as we move through Bois de la Vauche (la Vauche, Bezonvaux, France?) to capture the village of Samogneux. From here, we will attack the French positions by the ruins of La Fontaine (La Fontaine Ruins is a BF1 objective). We will then continue to push through this ravine, up the hill, where we will clear these trench lines, until we have secured the French artillery at Côte 378 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Verdun#First_phase,_21_February_%E2%80%93_1_March Côte 378 is a BF1 objective). And from here, we will be able to secure Fort Douaumont (reference to the Sjögren Inertial shotgun's Douaumont skin).
VERDUN HEIGHTS - FRENCH REPUBLIC - THIRD BATTALION DEFEATED (VICTORY) French Officer: A glorious victory for France. Your valiant hearts (reference to the Bodeo 1889 Revolver's The Valiant skin?) reflect the values of our great nation. Liberté, égalité, fraternité (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libert%C3%A9,_%C3%A9galit%C3%A9,_fraternit%C3%A9).
INTERMISSION Narrator/Announcer: After an initial breakthrough, the Germans took the massive Fort Douaumont. This advance would soon come to a halt, as the French poured men and resources into the area, determined to defend Verdun at all costs. And as the Germans approached Fort Vaux (reference to the Model 10 Shotgun's Vaux skin), the outcome was far from certain.
FORT DE VAUX - GERMAN EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION German Soldier: (in German) We are expected to attack Fort Vaux tomorrow. Who knows what hides beneath the surface of those thick walls. I have heard it was built after Bismarck's terrible war (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_von_Bismarck Franco-Prussian War 1870–71, the annexation of Alsace–Lorraine), to protect this region from future invaders. And here we are again, at each other's throats, both of us prepared to die before relinquishing an inch of ground.
FORT DE VAUX - GERMAN EMPIRE - BRIEFING - FORT DE VAUX 1916 German Officer: The French garrison have barricaded themselves inside of Fort Vaux. Leutnant Müller (This is here not a reference to the MP18's Breakthrough Muller skin. https://www.footstepsofgenerals.com/news/2020/5/7/3yntatvoc041kk2xwrdcv3t70w8gxv The garrison eventually ran out of water, ammunition, medical supplies, and food. On Wednesday 7 June 1916 Raynal was finally obliged to surrender to Leutnant Müller-Werner from Fusilier Regiment 39.) has ordered us to breach the Fortress Moat, here. We will then enter the fort and clear the corridors leading up to the Central Courtyard (Central Courtyard is a BF1 objective). From this position, we must clear out any remaining French resistance, pushing them out through the main entrance at the rear end of the fort. Prepare yourselves.
FORT DE VAUX - GERMAN EMPIRE - VICTORY German Officer: Glorreichen tag! (Glorious day!) Fort Vaux is ours. The city of Verdun will soon be draped in German flags. The Kaiser (reference to Gewehr 98's The Kaiser skin) praises his brave sons!
FORT DE VAUX - FRENCH REPUBLIC - INTRODUCTION French Soldier 1: (in French) Major Raynal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvain_Eug%C3%A8ne_Raynal historical fact on BF1 loading screen: "Major Sylvain-Eugene Raynal took command of Fort Vaux on the 24th of may 1916. His garrison set up makeshift defenses inside the fort and heroically defended the interiors.") has made sure we have barricaded as many entrypoints as possible — the Germans will have to work really hard to get in here.
French Soldier 3: (in French) I sing the "Marseillaise" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Marseillaise Battle of Verdun (1792): Despite the extensive fortifications, in the Battle of Verdun in 1792 the fortress was captured by the Prussians during the War of the First Coalition. In the Franco-Prussian War Verdun was the last French fortress to surrender in 1870.) to try to calm our nerves. Others tell stories of their grandfathers defending Verdun so successfully many years ago.
French Soldier 4: (in French) Raynal tells us he is now resorting to using homing pigeons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Vaux reference to Bodeo 1889 Revolver's The Valiant skin. Raynal sent several messages by homing pigeon, including Le Vaillant, requesting relief for his soldiers. In his last message, Raynal wrote "This is my last pigeon".). A war of great machines and technology, and yet is has come to this.
EXCERPT Under orders from Winston Churchill (reference to the C96 Pistol's Churchill skin), the First Lord of the Admiralty, the Allies landed troops on several beaches around the Gallipoli peninsular. The British and French launched their assault on V beach (reference to the Ross MKIII's V-beach skin and V-beach is a BF1 objective), defended, they believed, by a single Turkish company with rudimentary weapons. This attack was the first amphibious assault in modern history. However, unknown to the Allies, the Ottoman defenders had recently been armed by the Germans and were positioned in trenches and forts that dominated the higher ground.
CAPE HELLES - BRITISH EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION British Soldier 2: Thousands of us wait quietly in the hull of this old collier ship, a Trojan horse (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_River_Clyde On 25 April 1915 River Clyde sailed to take part in the landing at Cape Helles. She was carrying 2,000 soldiers; mostly from 86th Brigade, units of the 29th Division, the 1st Battalion of the Royal Munster Fusiliers and men from the 2nd Battalion, the Hampshire Regiment, the 1st Battalion, the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Unwin beached River Clyde at V Beach beneath the Sedd el Bahr castle, on the tip of the Gallipoli peninsula. The plan failed and the River Clyde, beached under the guns of the Ottoman defenders, became a death trap.), ready for the Ottomans with our sharpened British steel.
British Soldier 3: I saw the maps that the commanders are using... they are from the Crimean War (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_War The Crimean War was fought from October 1853 to February 1856 between Russia and an ultimately victorious alliance of the Ottoman Empire, France, the United Kingdom and Sardinia-Piedmont.), over 50 years old.
Frederick Bishop (Frederick Bishop is a character featured in the single player campaign of Battlefield 1): How many times will I see the sun rise over a battlefield? This old dog might be getting too tired for war. After this campaign, it's time to call it quits.
CAPE HELLES - BRITISH EMPIRE - BRIEFING - CAPE HELLES 1915 British Officer: Soldiers. Today we seize the beating heart of the Ottoman Empire. We seize Gallipoli. At dawn, we storm V Beach in Cape Helles. From there, we take their fort and supply stores at Seddel-Bahr (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedd_el_Bahr "The rocky peninsula is greatly inspired by the real-life Cape Helles and nearby fortress of Sedd el Bahr Kale (designated by the British as "Fort No. 3"), which overlooks the long, flat beaches of the BF1 map's south."). Then we will push forward and take their coastal batteries at Morto Bay (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landing_at_Cape_Helles One company was placed on the Aegean coast and one near Morto Bay, the other two were put in reserve at Kanli Dere, south-east of Krithia at the regimental headquarters.). Our final objective in this region is to take the high ground at Kharab Kala (The Turks had shown remarkable grit and valour on the 25th, and again during the contest for Sedd-el-Bahr village and for Kharab Kala redoubt). Stay strong soldiers, for victory is close at hand.
CAPE HELLES - BRITISH EMPIRE - VICTORY British Officer: A victory of splendid gallantry! You landed in a hostile country with formidable defences and proved yourselves worthy. Let us now advance upon Achi Baba (reference to the NO. 3 Revolver's Achi Baba skin).
CAPE HELLES - OTTOMAN EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION Ottoman Soldier 2: (in Turkish) Once we had single-shot rifles. Now they bring us these Nordenfelt guns (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordenfelt_gun) with their rapid fire. We have truly joined the modern age.
CAPE HELLES - OTTOMAN EMPIRE - FIRST BATTALION DEFEATED Ottoman Officer: Victory is ours! Praise Colonel Kemal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mustafa_Kemal_Atat%C3%BCrk Mustafa Kemal Atatürk or Mustafa Kemal Pasha until 1921, and Ghazi Mustafa Kemal from 1921 until 1934 (c. 1881 – 10 November 1938), was a Turkish field marshal, revolutionary statesman, author, and the founding father of the Republic of Turkey, serving as its first president from 1923 until his death in 1938. Atatürk came to prominence for his role in securing the Ottoman Turkish victory at the Battle of Gallipoli (1915) during World War I.) for his brave leadership. But also, be prepared. They will come again.
INTERMISSION Narrator/Announcer: Though the British did manage to capture and hold V Beach itself, they were soon locked in a stalemate, with both attack and counterattack gaining little ground. After eight months of torturous trench warfare, General Hamilton ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Hamilton_(British_Army_officer) General Sir Ian Standish Monteith Hamilton (16 January 1853 – 12 October 1947) was a senior British Army officer who had an extensive British Imperial military career in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Near the end of his career, he commanded the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in the Gallipoli Campaign of the First World War. With the Gallipoli Campaign stalled, Hamilton was recalled to London on 16 October 1915, effectively ending his military career.) launched one final attack in an attempt to take the first day's objectives—the village of Krithia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Battle_of_Krithia Third Battle of Krithia, 4 June 1915) and the high ridge of Achi Baba.
ACHI BABA - BRITISH EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION British Soldier 2: We agreed on an armistice to bury the dead. As we worked together, I offered an Ottoman one of my last cigarettes. He offered me a light (sceen from the "Gallipoli" TV Mini Series (2015), episode 2: My Friend, the Enemy).
Frederick Bishop: I can see the end in sight. We can take this town... —as long as the poms (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_names_for_the_British#Pommy The terms pommy, pommie, and pom used in Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand usually denote a British person) don't * away our momentum. I wouldn't put it past them.
ACHI BABA - BRITISH EMPIRE - BRIEFING - ACHI BABA 1915 British Officer: Victory is within reach. We shall trample them with our momentum. First, we'll push forward from the Ridge Offensive here (https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Achi_Baba In the first sector, the Ridge Offensive, the British are tasked with breaking out of the deployment at the foot of the hill and seizing the Command Post and Stronghold, located to the west and east of the dividing canyon wall respectively. ). Then we'll move to and take the trenches at Achi Baba Nullah (https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Achi_Baba Once past the Ridge Offensive, the attack continues at Achi Baba Nullah). From here, we must drive the enemy from the Forward Redoubt (Forward Redoubt is a BF1 objective), and capture the fortified Eski Kale (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedd_el_Bahr At the tip of the Sedd el Bahr promontory is the castle (Sedd el Bahr Kale), also known as Old Castle (Eski Kale), which was built in 1659. ). We will then fight past the bluffs, seize their backline, and prepare to take control of Krithia. For glory! For Britain!
INTRODUCTION Narrator/Announcer: On the anniversary of their humiliating defeat at Caporetto (reference to the Frommer Stop Pistol's Caporetto skin), the Italian Army launched a huge assault to win back the land they had lost from the now well prepared Austro-Hungarians. This would be the ultimate test for both of these courageous armies.
MONTE GRAPPA - KINGDOM OF ITALY - INTRODUCTION Italian Soldier: (in Italian) We will never forget the shame that our defeat at Caporetto brought to this country. Today we have a chance to ease that pain by reclaiming those lands that we lost to the Habsburg (reference to the Repetierpistole M1912' The Habsburg skin) invaders. So pray for me, mother. Pray for the Kingdom of Italy.
MONTE GRAPPA - KINGDOM OF ITALY - BRIEFING - VENETIAN ALPS 1918 Italian Officer: Orders from General Diaz (reference to the Modello 1915 Pistol's Diaz skin), soldato. Three objectives. First, the Church of San de Rocco (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Rocco Rocco di Montpellier, noto come san Rocco (Montpellier, 1345/1350 – Voghera, notte tra il 15 e il 16 agosto 1376/1379), è stato un pellegrino e taumaturgo francese, venerato come santo dalla Chiesa cattolica e patrono di numerose città e paesi. San Rocco Turret is a BF1 objective) must be taken. After this, we move immediately through la Valle Di Seren (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seren_del_Grappa Seren del Grappa is a comune (municipality) in the province of Belluno in the Italian region of Veneto, located about 70 kilometres (43 mi) northwest of Venice and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) southwest of Belluno.) . Then, with this momentum, we must move on and reclaim the great Fort de Ferro (Ferro Fortress is a BF1 objective) over here. This will cut the entire Austro-Hungarian army in two, allowing us to finish them by the coast.
MONTE GRAPPA - KINGDOM OF ITALY - SECOND BATTALION LOST Italian Officer: Our attacks have failed. The Austrians managed to hold their ground. We're going to put every last man, into this coming attack, our last chance to take back the fortress. Avanti Savoia (reference to Automatico M1918's The Savoia skin)!
MONTE GRAPPA - AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION Austro-Hungarian Soldier: (in German) This morning I saw an eagle soaring above the mountain. I could not help thinking it was our Imperial Eagle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Austria-Hungary The achievement of arms of Austria-Hungary was that country's symbol during its existence from the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 to its dissolution in 1918. The double-headed eagle of the ruling House of Habsburg-Lorraine was used by the common Imperial and Royal (k. u. k.) institutions of Austria-Hungary or the dual monarchy.) showing us the true height of our ambitions and ideals—it was majestic, it was glorious. From up there, it can surely see the Italians. Like that bird of prey we will soon be picking them off, one by one.
MONTE GRAPPA - AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE - DEFEAT Austro-Hungarian Officer: We have lost the fortress, and more fortresses have fallen up here in the Dolomites (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolomites The Dolomites, also known as the Dolomite Mountains, Dolomite Alps or Dolomitic Alps, are a mountain range in northeastern Italy. During the First World War, the front line between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian Army ran through the Dolomites, where both sides used mines extensively. Many people visit the Dolomites to climb the vie ferrate, protected paths through the rock walls that were created during the war.). We've been ordered to join the defenses on the coast, where we will have a better chance of defending our glorious empire.
EMPIRE'S EDGE - KINGDOM OF ITALY - BRIEFING - ADRIATIC COAST 1918 Italian Officer: Brothers, the retreating imperial forces are once more rooting themselves in our beloved kingdom. We must move quickly. Secure Hill 201 (Hill 201 is a BF1 objective) immediately. Then, swiftly take the old Castello (Castello is a BF1 objective) at the top of this hill. Finally, we must capture the heavily defended fortress protecting the seafront. Do this, and our war is won.
EMPIRE'S EDGE - KINGDOM OF ITALY - VICTORY Italian Officer: Fantastico, fratelli! Revel in your freedom and gaze upon this land of ours, the Kingdom of Italy! Our Sacro Egoismo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Salandra Antonio Salandra (13 August 1853 – 9 December 1931) was a conservative Italian politician who served as the 21st prime minister of Italy between 1914 and 1916. He ensured the entry of Italy in World War I on the side of the Triple Entente (the United Kingdom, France, and the Russian Empire) to fulfil Italy’s irredentist claims. Salandra used the term "sacred egoism" (sacro egoismo) to define Italy's outlook on which side Italy would enter the war. The secret pact, the Treaty of London or London Pact (Italian: Patto di Londra), was signed between the Triple Entente (the United Kingdom, France, and the Russian Empire) and the Kingdom of Italy. According to the pact, Italy was to leave the Triple Alliance and join the Triple Entente. Italy was to declare war against Germany and Austria-Hungary within a month in return for territorial concessions at the end of the war.) is an example to the entire world.
CONCLUSION - KINGDOM OF ITALY VICTORY Narrator/Announcer: The Italian victory, known as the "Vittorio Veneto" (reference to the Automatico M1918's Vittoria skin), brought an end to the war in the Italian front and resulted in the complete collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This also meant the war on the Western Front would soon come to an end.
INTRODUCTION Narrator/Announcer: The defeat of Russia in the east allowed Germany to concentrate its forces for one massive assault on the British sectors. The initial "hurricane" bombardment was heard from as far away as London. General Ludendorff (reference to the C96 Pistol's Ludendorff skin) then ordered his stormtroopers to attack the enemy trench lines.
ST. QUENTIN SCAR - GERMAN EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION German Soldier: (in German) I saw him yesterday, that Artillery Officer they are calling Durchbruchmüller (reference to the Breakthrough Muller skin for MP 18). He's here to orchestrate the symphony of our 10,000 guns, firing three million shells in just five hours. Over the enemy lines all we can see are rolling clouds of flame and ash. It is like the end of the world. I almost pity poor Tommy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Atkins Tommy Atkins (often just Tommy) is slang for a common soldier in the British Army. It was well established during the nineteenth century, but is particularly associated with the First World War.) in their trenches, trying to make sense of it all.
ST. QUENTIN SCAR - GERMAN EMPIRE - BRIEFING - PERONNE SECTOR 1918 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C3%A9ronne,_Somme) German Officer: Ludendorff has ordered us to punch a hole in the frontline. We must capture the Blue Line Trenches over here. Once broken through, take the high vantage point by the Venture Farm (Venture Farm is a BF1 objective). And then, by making a sweep through the Village of Travecy (the location of St. Quentin Scar's map is Travecy, Picardy region, France), we can attack the mills and secure the road to the city of Amiens.
ST. QUENTIN SCAR - GERMAN EMPIRE - FIRST BATTALION LOST German Officer: Our attack failed. But we men of experience are undeterred. We fought at Mulhouse (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mulhouse Battle of Mulhouse), Tannenberg (reference to the Madsen MG's Tannenberg skin), Arras (reference to the Lewis Gun's Arras skin). We know that victory is never easy. Let us fight, again.
ST. QUENTIN SCAR - GERMAN EMPIRE - VICTORY German Officer: Fine work, men! With the iron fist of the great Kaiser (reference to the Gewehr 98's The Kaiser skin) we have smashed their defenses. Now onwards, let us march to Amiens and bring an end to this war!
ST. QUENTIN SCAR - BRITISH EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION British Soldier 4: They're calling them storm troopers. Jerry's best (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terms_used_for_Germans#Jerry Jerry was a nickname given to Germans mostly during the Second World War by soldiers and civilians of the Allied nations, in particular by the British. The nickname was originally created during World War I.). Got orders to leave their trenches and charge right into us.
British Soldier 5: Come on, concentrate on your bayonet. Imagine it piercing the hearts of the Hun (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terms_used_for_Germans#Hun_.28pejorative.29 Beginning in World War I it became an often used pejorative seen on war posters by Western Allied powers and the basis for a criminal characterisation of the Germans as barbarians with no respect for civilisation and humanitarian values having unjust reactions.) —every last one of them.
T. QUENTIN SCAR - BRITISH EMPIRE - FIRST BATTALION DEFEATED British Officer: Yes men, we won. That's the spirit and determination that made Britain great. But they will come again. So keep those rifles at the ready and the spirit of Blighty (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blighty "Blighty" is a British English slang term for Great Britain, or often specifically England. During the First World War, "Dear Old Blighty" was a common sentimental reference, suggesting a longing for home by soldiers in the trenches. The term was particularly used by World War I poets such as Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon. During that war, a "Blighty wound" – a wound serious enough to require recuperation away from the trenches, but not serious enough to kill or maim the victim – was hoped for by many, and sometimes self-inflicted) in your hearts.
T. QUENTIN SCAR - BRITISH EMPIRE - THIRD BATTALION DEFEATED (VICTORY) British Officer: Glorious victory for the British and the Allied cause, for all sensible thinking people across the Empire. Your valiant hearts (Valiant Hearts: The Great War is a 2014 puzzle adventure game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft. Set during World War I, the game follows four characters who help a young German soldier find his love in a story about survival, sacrifice and friendship.) have shown us to be true defenders of our noble values.
INTERMISSION Narrator/Announcer: The initial attacks in the Kaiserschlacht campaign (reference to the MP18's The Kaiserschlacht skin) successfully worked through the British lines, forcing its armies back towards the city of Amiens. This vital railway junction connecting all allied troops across France was Germany's true objective.
AMIENS - GERMAN EMPIRE - BRIEFING - SUBURBS OF AMIENS 1918 German Officer: Win this war, Amiens is vital to our plans. Ludendorff's orders are simple. We must secure Point Labyrinth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiens_Cathedral The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Amiens (French: Basilique Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens), or simply Amiens Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic church. 1914–1918 – Stained glass removed for its protection; cathedral facade suffers minor damage during World War I) situated in these ruins. We then advance to this bridge, Pont Neuf (Pont Neuf's Bridge is a BF1 objective. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pont_Neuf The Pont Neuf ("New Bridge") is the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris, France.), capture and secure it. After that, we move into the city, and attack the enemy at Place Longueville (Place Longueville is a BF1 objective). Once this position is controlled, Amiens will be ours.
AMIENS - BRITISH EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION British Soldier 2: This city, Amiens, it isn't far from the old Somme (reference to the Auto revolver's Somme skin) battle field—a field where every yard is soaked in British blood. The men don't forget that.
AMIENS - BRITISH EMPIRE - THIRD BATTALION DEFEATED (VICTORY) British Officer: Amiens is ours! You're heroes, every man jack of you, all working together. That's the secret of British greatness. Haig (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Haig,_1st_Earl_Haig Field Marshal Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig, (; 19 June 1861 – 29 January 1928) was a senior officer of the British Army. During the First World War he commanded the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) on the Western Front from late 1915 until the end of the war. ) can cease his panicking. This war will soon be won.
FAO FORTRESS - BRITISH EMPIRE - BRIEFING - AL-FAW PENINSULA (refrence to the Revolver MK VI's Al Faw skin) PERSIAN GULF 1914 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fao_Landing The Fao Landing occurred from November 6, 1914 to November 8, 1914 with British forces attacking the Ottoman stronghold of Fao and its fortress.) British Officer: Our fleet has entered the gulf and our forces are already on the shores. To secure the beachhead, we must first capture the Ottoman Outpost on the tip of the Al-Faw peninsula, and then fight our way through their defences in the Sunwada Marshes (Sunwada Marshes is a BF1 objective), and finally, secure what we came for—the Fortress of Fao itself. Only when this is accomplished will the oil be secured for our empire.
INTERMISSION Narrator/Announcer: Some time after the British secured the oil fields in the Persian Gulf, the Ottomans launched an audacious attack on the Suez Canal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raid_on_the_Suez_Canal The Raid on the Suez Canal, also known as Actions on the Suez Canal, took place between 26 January and 4 February 1915 when a German-led Ottoman Army force advanced from Southern Palestine to attack the British Empire-protected Suez Canal, marking the beginning of the Sinai and Palestine Campaign (1915–1918) of World War I.), the key to maintaining British dominance in the world.
SUEZ - BRITISH EMPIRE - BRIEFING - WESTERN BANK OF THE CANAL 1915 British Officer: The Ottomans are threatening the Suez Canal, the bloodline of our empire. First, we must overrrun the enemy lines on the East Bank (East Bank is a BF1 objective). And from there, swiftly push through the village of Kantara (reference to the Revolver MK VI's Kantara skin and Kantara is a BF1 objective). This will allow us to mount an assault on their artillery positions on Hill 50 (Hill 50 is a BF1 objective). When the guns have been silenced, we will push the Ottomans back into the Sinai Desert.
SUEZ - OTTOMAN EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION Ottoman Soldier: (in Turkish) Yesterday we made an attack on the Suez canal. A surprise, but this vein of the British Empire has not yet been severed. We must await their attack, for the Imperial beast still sleeps. The fools did not believe we could survive such a march across the desert. Tomorrow, Emir, they will regret their stupidity. Praise the Sultan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehmed_V Mehmed V Reşâd (Ottoman Turkish: محمد خامس, romanized: Meḥmed-i ḫâmis; Turkish: V. Mehmed or Mehmed Reşad; 2 November 1844 – 3 July 1918) was the penultimate sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1909 to 1918. The Ottomans entered World War I in November 1914 during which Mehmed declared jihad against the Allies. While Ottoman forces successfully fended off an Allied invasion at Gallipoli, defeat loomed on the Caucasian and Mesopotamian fronts. Military collapse in the field and a revolt by its Arab subjects spelled impending disaster, though Mehmed died before Ottoman surrender, and he was succeeded by Mehmed VI.).
INTERMISSION Narrator/Announcer: Once the British has secured the vital Suez Canal, they continued their pursuit of the Turks into the depths of the Sinai Desert. Here, the Ottoman army had brought temporary, but strong defenses.
SINAI DESERT - BRITISH EMPIRE - INTRODUCTION British Officer: We pursue the Ottomans into the depths of the Sinai desert, a place so vast that I feel insignificant—so timeless that I think of those who have come before us. This will truly be a battle from Roman times. Like them, our objectives are cities with mythical names. Jerusalem (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Jerusalem), Nazareth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Nazareth), Damascus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capture_of_Damascus). If the ruins around me could speak, they would warn us—warn us of ourselves.
SINAI DESERT - BRITISH EMPIRE - BRIEFING - EAST OF EL-JIFAR 1915 ("Engage in all-out war in Sinai Desert, a scorching hot battlefield located just East of El-Jifar. Official website description") British Officer: We have sighted the Ottomans, men. They are dug in ahead of us at the Ruins of Sonsuz (Sonsuz is a BF1 objective). We must capture this position and force them back into the Canyon of Jabal (reference to the M1917 Enfield's Jabal Canyon skin and Jabal Canyon is a BF1 objective). There we must rout them, so they retreat to the outpost of Bir el Mazar (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinai_and_Palestine_campaign#Bir_el_Mazar Bir el Mazar is a BF1 objective). This is our chance to secure the whole of this region.
VOLGA RIVER - RED ARMY - INTRODUCTION Red Army Soldier 1: (in Russian) After leaving the train, our regiment gathered alongside the Volga River. Mother Volga ("The river has a symbolic meaning in Russian culture – Russian literature and folklore often refer to it as Волга-матушка Volga-Matushka (Mother Volga).") — her wide, slow waters mirroring the very soul of Russia itself.
Red Army Soldier 3: (in Russian) Stalin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Stalin The defense of Tsaritsyn, nicknamed the "Red Verdun", was one of the most widely described and commemorated events of the Civil War in Soviet historiography, art and propaganda. This was due to the fact that Joseph Stalin took part in the defense of the city between July and November 1918.) described the fighting that had gone before. Three years of spilled Russian blood. We owe it to our dead comrades to take back this town.
VOLGA RIVER - RED ARMY - BRIEFING - VOLGA RIVER 1919 Red Army Officer: Men, orders from comrade Stalin concerning our attack. Our first objective is to secure and hold the Red Line (Red Line is a BF1 objective) here. From this position, we'll advance to this area, Zevina's Ruins (Zevina's Church is a BF1 objective). Once we have this sector, we'll look to take control of the Don Riverhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_(river). From here, we can launch an assault on Tsaritsyn itself. Comrades! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comrade) The success of our revolution depends upon this fight!
VOLGA RIVER - WHITE ARMY - INTRODUCTION White Army Soldier 1: (in Russian) While I wear the uniform of the Imperial Army, others wear their Cossack cloaks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cossacks) and papakha hats (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papakha). We are different men, bound only by our hatred of the Bolsheviks.
VOLGA RIVER - WHITE ARMY - DEFEAT White Army Officer: Soldiers, we have lost this position. In the name of General Wrangel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyotr_Wrangel Baron Pyotr Nikolayevich Wrangel (Russian: Пётр Николаевич Врангель, German: Peter von Wrangel; August 27 [O.S. August 15] 1878 – 25 April 1928), also known by his nickname the Black Baron, was a Russian officer of Baltic German origin in the Imperial Russian Army. During the final phase of the Russian Civil War, he was commanding general of the anti-Bolshevik White Army in Southern Russia. maybe reference to the C-93 Pistol's The General skin ???), who first conquered this town, we must retreat, and protect our prize from those Bolshevik marauders (maybe reference to the C-93 Pistol's Marauder skin ???).
INTERMISSION Narrator/Announcer: With their forces destabilized, the White Army retreated to the streets of Tsaritsyn that they had so recently fought to capture. General Wrangel knew that holding the town was vital for the counter-revolutionary forces in Southern Russia, they needed such a base to launch an advance on Moscow (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow). And without access to the oil and grain in the North Caucasus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Caucasus), it was evident that the coalition of White forces would soon weaken, and ultimately break apart.
TSARITSYN - RED ARMY - BRIEFING - TSARITSYN 1919 Red Army Officer: Comrades! The volunteer forces occupy several strongholds within the city. Our priority is take Demchenko Street. Once secured, we should able to advance into and hold the ruins of Savrasova Street (Savrasova St. is a BF1 objective). It is from here that we will launch our attack on Teplova Square and the Cathedral (Cathedral of Light is a BF1 objective. The in-game cathedral is modeled more after the Kronstadt Naval Cathedral???). With these positions under our control, we'll then move into and secure the Merchant District (Merchant District is a BF1 objective). Success here means the city will be ours once again. Our great leaders depend upon you!
TSARITSYN - RED ARMY - FIRST BATTALION LOST Red Army Officer: We have lost this fight. Remember our mission, a mission for peace, bread, and land (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Decree The Bolshevik Initial Decrees (the 'Decrees') were announced as soon as the Bolsheviks declared their success in the October Revolution (October 26, 1917). The Decrees seemed to conform to the popular Bolshevik slogan "Peace, Land and Bread", taken up by the masses during the July Days (July 1917), an uprising of workers and military forces). We must battle once again!
TSARITSYN - RED ARMY - VICTORY Red Army Officer: We have won the battle comrades. The criminals and imperialist old guard, who tried to strangle our ideals, are no more. Thank Lenin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Lenin) for his wisdom!
I collected the skin references from the transcript of the Storm of Steel singleplayer campaign (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storm_of_SteelStorm of Steel (German: In Stahlgewittern, lit. I read the following today on the "BFEE - Battlefield Easter Egg Community" page: https://wiki.bfee.co/index.php?title=Battlefield_1 A random wooden crate on any multiplayer or singleplayer map is filled with teddy bears which will jump out of the crate when it is destroyed.
Then I read the wiki article about Teddy Bear. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_bear History The name teddy bear comes from former United States President Theodore Roosevelt, who was often referred to as "Teddy" (a nickname which he loathed). The name originated from an incident on a bear hunting trip in Mississippi in November 1902, to which Roosevelt was invited by Mississippi Governor Andrew H. Longino. There were several other hunters competing, and most of them had already killed an animal. A suite of Roosevelt's attendants, led by Holt Collier, cornered, clubbed, and tied an American black bear to a willow tree after a long exhausting chase with hounds. They called Roosevelt to the site and suggested that he shoot it. He refused to shoot the bear himself, deeming this unsportsmanlike, but instructed that the bear be killed to put it out of its misery, and it became the topic of a political cartoon by Clifford Berryman in The Washington Post on November 16, 1902. While the initial cartoon of an adult black bear lassoed by a handler and a disgusted Roosevelt had symbolic overtones, later issues of that and other Berryman cartoons made the bear smaller and cuter.
Three skins of Russian 1895 gun were named after Theodore Roosevelt: -The Teddy (Road to Battlefield V reward) for Russian 1895 -The Medicine skin for Russian 1895 -Rough Rider skin for Russian 1895

Fao Landing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fao_Landing The Fao Landing occurred from November 6, 1914 to November 8, 1914 with British forces attacking the Ottoman stronghold of Fao and its fortress. The landing was met with little resistance from the Turkish defenders who fled after intense shelling. It was the first military operation of the Mesopotamian Campaign of World War I which was carried out to protect the British Empire's oil supplies in the Persian Gulf. The initial landing force was a contingent of Royal Marines from HMS Ocean and British Indian troops of the 16th (Poona) Brigade under Walter Sinclair Delamain. The British sloop HMS Odin shelled the Turkish positions near the old fortress of Fao, silencing the enemy batteries and clearing the way for the landing force. In popular culture: The Fao Landing and the subsequent battle for the fortress are featured in the video game Battlefield 1.
Christmas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas The pre-Christian Germanic peoples—including the Anglo-Saxons and the Norse—celebrated a winter festival called Yule, held in the late December to early January period, yielding modern English yule, today used as a synonym for Christmas. In Germanic language-speaking areas, numerous elements of modern Christmas folk custom and iconography may have originated from Yule, including the Yule log, Yule boar, and the Yule goat. Often leading a ghostly procession through the sky (the Wild Hunt, reference to the Die Wilde Jagd skin Gewehr 98), the long-bearded god Odin is referred to as "the Yule one" and "Yule father" in Old Norse texts, while other gods are referred to as "Yule beings".
Joyeux Noël (2005) https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Joyeux_No%C3%ABl Joyeux Noël (French for Merry Christmas) is a 2005 anti-war film directed by Christian Carion. France, December 1914. In a comparatively confined space of just a few hundred square meters, Franco-British and German units lie ready to fight in the freezing cold. They all have only one wish, that finally there should be an end to the killing. On Christmas Eve, however, when music resounds from the other trench, the troops on both sides decide to put aside their weapons for a short period and celebrate together. This fictionalized account is based on the true story of the Christmas truce of 1914.

I re-watched the movie 28 Days Later yesterday (I watched the movie in the cinema in 2002). At the beginning of the film, which was shot in London, there is a World War I memorial. I searched for the filming location and found the ww1 monument, which is a cenotaph. my screenshot:
Guards Memorial https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guards_Memorial The Guards Memorial, also known as the Guards Division War Memorial is an outdoor war memorial located on the west side of Horse Guards Road, opposite Horse Guards Parade in London, United Kingdom. It commemorates the war dead from the Guards Division and related units during the First World War, and of the Household Division in the Second World War and other conflicts since 1918. The cenotaph memorial was designed by H. Chalton Bradshaw. It includes a broad squat white Portland stone obelisk 38 feet (12 m) high standing on a white stone base with three steps. On a raised platform to the east side of the memorial, facing Horse Guards Parade, are five large bronze sculptures by Gilbert Ledward, one representing each of the Foot Guards Regiments, standing easy with their rifles above stone carvings showing the badge of each regiment, each slightly larger than life size, about 7 feet 3 inches (2.21 m) in high. The statues and panels were cast by the William Morris Art Bronze Foundry using bronze taken from German guns melted down after the First World War. Above the five statues, the cenotaph also bears an inscription written by Rudyard Kipling, whose only son John was killed in action while serving the Irish Guards at the Battle of Loos in September 1915.
