Re: In the end, what number of new and remastered maps would be enough for you?

@UNL1M1T3D_P0W3RI can see this Hub being something that launches with 6 to 8 maps and they keep adding to it. But I don't see it being tied to seasonal content, instead a steady stream of additions over the life of the game. I think they plan on this being a revenue stream. I can see the launch maps being free, but then added maps being in the range of $2-5 each.

I'd pay it. Games are charging 4 times that much for stupid cosmetics. Why wouldn't I pay that for an actual gameplay map? lol

I'm skeptical of the "leaked" list because I don't see Locker and Metro both in at launch with an even smaller map in Arica Harbor (How are Bad Co maps even supposed to mix in with 64 player maps?) Your a mad man OP suggesting such a thing LOL!!! So my list beyond what has "leaked":

- Dragon Valley 2015
- Paracel Storm
- Strike at Karkand
- Giants of Karelia
- Operation Mortar
- Wavebreaker
- Sharqi Peninsula
- Hammerhead
- Golmud Railway
- Damavand Peak

And some added BF2/BF2142 love:
- Iron Gator (BF2)
- Kubra Dam (BF2)
- Surge (BF2)
- Camp Gibraltar (BF2142)
- Port Bavaria (BF2142)

  • @ArchAngeL-PCX Yeah I think Ripple will just add maps to the Hub at their own pace as an extra stream of content. I don't think they'll charge players money to play old remastered maps post-launch, and that would immediately go back to hideous Premium Pass ways of splitting up the playerbase - all maps should be free for all. The are battlefield players to this day that still don't have Premium Passes, no matter how cheap it gets lol. But we'll find out everything when EA Play arrives.

@UNL1M1T3D_P0W3RCome on, dude. You know selling post launch remastered maps at $2-3 each isn't that big of an ask. lol. Even $5 each. They probably wouldn't release more than one or two a month if that.  Gamers are paying more than that for cosmetics in other games lol. All the BF2042 maps added for the main game will remain free. The launch remastered maps will be free.

Premium pass asked for $50 up front, but also guaranteed a lot more post launch content than we got with BFV. Although maybe Gold and Ultimate editions will essentially give them that premium boost.

  • @ArchAngeL-PCX It's not that, it's the large number of cheap players that would still never buy them even if they were $1 each, resulting in most players only playing the same 6-8 remastered launch maps over and over (a sad pattern that's also seen in BF1 and 4 servers).

Premium Pass may have "guaranteed" more content, but you divide it all up behind paywalls and it's really just an illusion that slowly kills the content players payed extra for, which is why there's sadly always more base map servers than anything else. Maps and game modes are the life of games; if players pay the price of the game all maps and modes should be available to them at all times.

Premium Pass only works in an ideal world where everyone who buys a Battlefield game also buys Premium, but that's just never gonna happen. And I'm so glad gaming companies have moved on from restricting maps and modes. Keep further costs exclusively for cosmetics / unique cosmetics only, as long as said cosmetics don't do things like hide from night vision, etc.

@UNL1M1T3D_P0W3R That's just it though, a ton of players bought the Premium pass for BF4. First couple of years, DLC lobbies were all over the place. DICE also had official servers running for the DLC. Whatever content you wanted to play, there were plenty of full servers available. I'd do marathons where I'd play the launch maps, then each DLC in order lol. Premium pass was never a problem in BF3 or BF4 because too many bought it. Same with COD. Other games like Killzone abandoned it early because they didn't carry near the amount of players, so yeah the DLC was scarce after a couple weeks.

What happens in every game after a couple years and most of the player base moves on is you get a die hard fan base that is content to just sit on the launch maps. But even now with the resurgence of BF4, there's a good mix of DLC servers running. At least on Playstation.

These companies ditched the premium pass because they figured out how to get the community to give them even more money in cosmetics lol!!
