Re: Cache being saved to documents, which gets synced by Onedrive

@RayD_01 spotted that the cache folder has been moved to the \BattfieldGameData.kin %appdata% folder out of MyDocuments folder. Guys let me know if you can use OneDrive again!

Up until today I had been deleting the files in : User\Documents\Battlefield 2042\cache folder on a regular basis as it is supposed to help with in-game stuttering issues etc.....

Now that it has moved to : User\AppData\Local\BattlefieldGameData.kin-release.Win32\cache is that something I should still be doing. ?

Note : I am not a OneDrive user.

Before with OneDrive enabled the cache folder was getting synched to OneDrive while gaming causing stuttering as well as filling OneDrive with useless cache files. OneDrive would nag you about being full all the time.

Thanks for explaining that bud. 👍

So is it safe to assume I can delete the cache files in the new AppData folder when it becomes large to save space on the hard drive. ?

This I don't know for sure but believe it should be ok to do so.

  • Nice callout! I can confirm that after installing the update and then launching the game for the first time after it DELETES the content within %userprofile%\OneDrive\Documents\Battlefield 2042 and then creates a new folder called %localappdata%\BattlefieldGameData.kin-release.Win32 which contains no content from the previous Cache. So, it stands to reason there is no harm in deleting anything in that folder. I did not go into any maps before closing the game, and the cache folder size is sitting at 34k.

Glad they finally got this straightened out, and hopefully it's a lesson learned going forward.

Thanks @sk1lld  and @RayD_O1 for mentioning

Just wondered why my desktop shortcut to cache folder stopped working after todays update and then discovered it's new location in AppData. Glad it helped. 👍

Wow, and only took them 2.5 years!!

Better late than never; shame I stopped playing the game a long time ago 🤦

I'm surprised. I didn't think DICE was ever going to change their position on this issue. Maybe they hired a new person?
