@CyberDymeI never said anything about anyone needed to get "punished"? What are you talking about?
My point was, MM originated in the early 2000's with Halo. On consoles. It was meant to make the process simpler but in reality its hindering 2042 to gain more players. And sure, console players should also have a server list, why not?
Like i said before, they can keep their MM garbage but at least let me decide what maps i DONT wanna play and make a filter that allows me to say "i dont wanna join any game if Tickets are = >400 (for example).
Hey @Buzzfunk , don't think that I ever said, that you said...
It was me saying that consoles having to use Match Making would be a punishment. :o)
It was Halo 2 in 2004 that first introduced the match making functionality.
But think though that was only for xbox, so not for all consoles per say.
But before that, we already had great working dedicated game servers for multiplayer gaming. Think it was games like Doom, Quake and Diablo that pioneered this for us. In the beginning a bit rogue where we even had to share our individual IP addresses with each other, but it worked great. And later versions and other games made it even more streamlined and hosted on neutral grounds by the game host. So real game servers, we already had from 1996 or from there about!
So no doubt about my personal preference that of course we should have dedicated servers and a server browser!
But from EA's perspective they want to run it as cheap as possible. Hence no honest desire/want to allow servers to be awake/running idle if not active and running full of players.
And that is a real negative spiral to think such small and short term. Those of you trying these days to run a rented BF4 server know what I am talking about. Because EA also deliberately cut us short on that few years back in the BF4 world. With the result its near impossible to succeed setting up a new server these days. Reason is that if the owner/server admin is not active sitting in the game server, then the server will not be visible in the server browser to other players to join it/mark it as favorite if no other players are on it at same time. And only the server owner/admin will be able to start up the server and make it visible for other players to join it to play again.
Only as long as there are active players on the server will it remain visible to others in the server browser.
Hence, we may have a server browser, but in reality, we no longer have persistent servers.
And the player community is as result suffering dramatically from this!
