Re: my thoughts on dead space 3!

i have to admit my feelings about the upgrade/weapons system in ds 3 a kind of mixed,

in ds 1 and 2 i was able to carry 4 weapons with each having a primary and secondary feature.

in ds 3 i only got 2 which i can config to my needs with an assortment of primary and secondary weapon functions,

but in the end i only got 2 weapons with an odd combination of features instead of 4 with primary and secondary functions that compliment each other.

sure its all up to how i put the stuff together to get a good working tool, but i feel like i have less options somehow.

i played my fist round of ds3 on hard and ended up using weapons with a high rate of fire and mediocre or low damage like the chaingun, repeater or rail accellerator, instead of high powered, slow firing mining tools or industrial weaponry, because i was swarmed by large numbers of necromorphs all the time. which is sad because i wasnt using my limited edition weapons alot this way, cause waiting for the weapon to be firing again while a swarm of feeders and other nasty things were coming at you meant you were going to die horribly...

the suit upgrades were kind of disappointing aswell, when i first looked at the upgrade screen i thought how cool it would be when you put all the stuff on your suit and you would be able to see the things like extra armor, bigger stasis and kinesis modules etc, but i soon realized nothing was going to show up on my suit.

also the investment of resources on the air upgrade was pretty pointless because you were only using air in 5 or 6 chapters and pretty much only for relatively short spans of time in these chapters, like going back and forth between the derelict ships in orbit of tau volantis, you pretty much never use it again after landing on the planet

so yeah kinda mixed feelings 😕mileyindifferent:

im playing in hardest difficulty, and i only use plasma cutter. the upgrade system is so horrible. i dont like that you can mix stuff.

if i upgrade my rig, does the upgrades transfer to the new rig?

The reason it feels off going from 4 to 2 weapons is because it's actually less this time around.

DS1 and 2 featured alternative fire modes on most weapons, so 4x that makes 8 different weapons (compared to DS3) while in here we're limited to 4 total, albeit very well done in my honest opinion.

Personally i completely love the modular weapon idea, but it should be a mix between the "node path" method and the modular path, hence i would suggest the upgrades on the frames themselves rather than the full weapons. Frames would support node paths and modular parts would make the actual weapon.

Also suits. DS1 upgrade system for RIG and suits was very straightforward. DS2 added to that with different suits and effects, however DS3 took a step back with JUST RIG upgrades and all suits doing exactly the same (purely cosmetic, some exceptions to story)

The one thing i (surprisingly) didn't like was the loss of ammo types. DS1 and 2 made me master inventory management and somehow it feels off compared to the older systems. This is what probably makes it more action less pure survival horror, but overall i did feel longing as you find so much ammo and healthkits (even on impossible) you won't ever need to buy or craft any, so essentially you can finish the game without having to store healthkits for critical moments, ammo for guns you want to use for situations and so on. It makes things go faster but also a lot less in depth.

Also i was saddened that they removed my favourite deadspace enemy but brought back an old one, albeit a lot less hazardous (that or i got tougher since DS1)

Namely the Divider (best awesome enemy ever in any horror game period) and the Twitcher.
The lack of the infector put my mind at ease since that was probably the most gruesome thing to hit gaming land in a long time. Luckily the little buggers took over his task so it's not entirely missing, but overall, if the infector was in this game, i'd have crapped myself multiple times before hitting unpause, then some more.

Overall this has got to be acknowledged as one of the better games in the DS series thus far, bringing enough new things to the table to stay fresh, adding Coop in ways most game developers can learn from and generally continue onward in that old fashioned horrendous spirit that is deadspace. Sadly some things were lost as well, but it seems to me visceral knows their bizniz so i presume they take all the feedback they can.

Not gonna give some random number between 0-10 because i don't believe in that sort of thing.

    1. upgrade system is horrible

    2. im maybe half way through the game. and ive never changed suit? WTF where are they?

    3. only same ammo types? WHAT?

    4. the duck system is so chilish amateur like ☹️ remove it completely

    5. you can make own weapons? WTF

    6. new stuff isnt explained well enough to understand.

ds1 and ds2 was BEST OF THE BEST. not the third one ☹️

I have to disagree with one of your complaints, only one though.

Isaac's ability to craft his own weapons is actually quiet delightful. It is not WTF at all

because he is supossed to be one skilled Engineer. Him crafting his own stuff is like

the first time we really get to see that knowledge. Most of the "guns" he used in DS1

and 2 were just mining tools. It makes sense that he knows how to for example combine

    a cutter with something else.

Still, I won't deny that I miss for example different ammo. Universal takes away so much strategy

it is depressing really. Just shoot, shoot, shoot and prey that UA won't run out. Lazy CoD stuff.

  • I like the weapon crafting it is cool all the different combos you can make. In this game I can make a gun that I want unlike in the other dead space game were you get what they give you. But for the suits I think most of them look stupid except the engineering and first contact. I wish they would have the suits like in dead space 2 were you get benefits from them.

i just changed my first suit.

if you compare the esthetics concerning suits on ds1 and ds3. its like comparing playstation 3 with super nintendo... ds3 is nintendo that is...
